Experiential Training is a Popular Trend in Corporate Training Programmes
by Andrew Abraham Business AnalystThe corporate world in India neglects
women and they are discriminated especially in their workplace. Training for
women in the corporate sector is ignored; so they find it hard to compete with
the opposite sex. In spite of adversities, several women are trying to compete
with men and are doing exceptionally well. Fortunately, there are some
management consulting companies that do their part to help women by providing
special training for women employees.
Leadership Training for Women
Management consulting firms in India
provide training for women employees.
Women want to make a difference. It is a fact that there are fewer females in
the managerial positions than men. However, things are changing and the wrong
perception that women cannot do it, is giving way to acceptance. This is
because there have been reports that the weaker sex is able to perform better
and exhibit excellent leadership qualities. Therefore, management companies are
providing opportunities for focused development. Special training programmes
for women are held and organisations are trying to expose their talent by
providing the arena and the tools to empower them. Talented women in the
corporate sector are selected and offered leadership training.
Experiential Education
Experiential learning is different from
other learning procedures in the sense that the learner learns by doing. Since,
the learner has first-hand experience, he/she remembers and understands the
concepts better. Knowledge becomes valuable; hence, it is retained. Typically,
there are three steps to this type of education; experience, expression and
generalization. Only by experiencing can you retain information and knowledge
becomes meaningful. This type of education is particularly successful for
adults. They have to apply the knowledge in real situations especially in their
workplace. Hence, everything that is learnt is applied and this is when there
is value attached to it. Positive experiences help in motivating learners and
encourage them to have valuable experiences. Therefore, when there is change,
it is important to adapt ourselves to it and move forward.
Innovative Training Workshops
In a corporate setting innovation cannot
be given; trying to do things creatively is possible only in workshops where
participants can find out for themselves. Experiential
learning has become an established mode of teaching and learning in the
corporate sector. The workshops are settings where employees are given
opportunities to think new ideas by engaging in fun and creative activities. This
helps in creating a bond and team spirit. There are no power point
presentations or lectures; the fun activities motivate employees to think
differently. When there is rigidity there can be no new experiences. This is
why; the workshops are preferred to be outside where participants can be free
to experiment on their own. If you want your team to think something new, even
an average person will come out with unexpected and extraordinary ideas. Since,
businesses are under pressure to create something different, it becomes
challenging and there are barriers such as limited budgets, resources and time.
However, all barriers can be removed with change and innovation.
