Cross Platform Apps Development

by Krify Innovations Digital Marketing Executive

Hybrid apps have a challenge. They do not work self-reliantly without the assistance of native browsers and hence they are slow when compared to native applications. Regardless of the strengths and weaknesses of the Hybrid apps, the users are definitely benefited with these apps, as the individuals needs differ.

Hybrid Apps

Hybrid Apps are created using Native browsers such as UIWebView in iOS and WdbView in Android. HTML, Javascript and CSS are used to develop Hybrid Apps following which they are enfolded in native application platforms. The result of this is adaptability of web technologies with the grouping of Software Development Kit (SDK) and powerful device features.

Hybrid mobile apps are like any other apps you’ll find on your phone. They install on your device. You can find them in app stores. With them, you can play games, engage your friends through social media, take photos, track your health, and much more.

Like the websites on the internet, hybrid mobile apps are built with a combination of web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The key difference is that hybrid apps are hosted inside a native application that utilizes a mobile platform’s WebView. (You can think of the WebView as a chromeless browser window that’s typically configured to run fullscreen.) This enables them to access device capabilities such as the accelerometer, camera, contacts, and more. These are capabilities that are often restricted to access from inside mobile browsers.

I think there is one additional category of cross platform apps that is missed by this article that is neither hybrid nor html5.

Its taken by tools such as Corona and Codename One and its essentially a lightweight architecture. Ionic takes a similar direction but is based on HTML5.

This is pretty powerful since it allows for a build cloud architecture like PhoneGap Build and that removes the need for a Mac etc.

I highly recommend reviewing these tools since they are posed to revolutionize native development in the same way ionic is disrupting mobile web development.
