Care Routine For Avoiding Discoloration Of Braces

by Oliver S. Specialist In Orthodontics
Polycrystalline and monocrystalline alumina are the common materials that are used for making ceramic braces. The materials are usually tooth colored or clear and are resistant to stain. Ligature is a part of ceramic braces that keeps the archwire fixed.  These are small bands of rubber that fit around every individual brace in order to keep the wire intact and in place.

If you want to avoid stains from appearing on the braces, you will have to take good care of them. Constant care and vigilance is the key to keeping your dentures clear and spotless. The first step of the care routine is to never miss your appointment with the dentist in Round Rock. Every couple of weeks, ligatures are required to be changed and for that regularly visiting the dentist is important.

You can choose a ligature in a different color as they come in many. You can go with light blue and smoke gray. The benefit of these colors is that they are less noticeable and are better able to resist staining than white or clear ligatures. If the braces are for kids, then you can go with bright and vibrant colors too. Right color selection will make it easier to take good care of them without many efforts.

Next tip is to avoid consuming foods that stain. For example fruits like blackberries and blueberries tend to leave dark spots and can easily start discoloration of the tooth. Try to avoid or at least limit the consumption of liquids like coffee, dark sodas, wine, and tea because they also tend to discolor the teeth if consumed regularly.  Also, don’t forget to regularly brush your teeth. Use good whitening toothpaste. You can ask a good dentist in Round Rock about which toothpaste is the best one.

Usually it is advised for people who wear braces to brush their teeth after every single meal. This is important not only to keep the dentures stain-free but to also avoid tooth decay which is often caused by food that gets trapped between arch wires. Make sure to rinse your mouth every time you eat some snack or have a dark drink. If possible, use a mouthwash containing fluoride. If you find it difficult to brush teeth after every single meal, make sure to drink some water and swish it well inside the mouth.

This practice will avoid the remains of food from sticking to the surface of braces and staining it. Although it may not be as good as brushing, but will definitely slow down the staining process. It is important that you do not smoke. Smoke contains nicotine which can cause the grooves on braces to start getting brown.
