Best Blogging Platform

How to increase website traffic is a has proved to be a considerable challenge to many would be internet marketers, including myself. In other words visitors to a website are obviously essential to the the success of any commercial online enterprise, just as they are to all high street off-line businesses.

Targeted traffic.

The problem is compounded by the fact that any old traffic just does not work, it has to be targeted traffic. By targeted traffic I mean that getting someone to visit your site is only half of the problem, to have any chance of that individual becoming a paying customer you must be offering precisely what they are interested in. There is little point in sending someone to your weight loss site who is looking for information regarding roses!

This concept may seem obvious but sending untargeted traffic to a site is one of the most common mistakes made by would be internet marketers.

Numbers are also very important.

It is impossible to generalize when discussing figures in connection with an online marketing campaign, it can vary from market to market and niche to niche. The safest way of looking at this is to work with modest results.

If one thousand visitors come to your site and you are offering a free item in exchange for their name and email address then it would be reasonable to assume that twenty of them would let you have that information. Of those giving you their details perhaps five per cent will eventually buy whatever you are promoting. This means that to generate one sale you will need one thousand visitors to check out your site.

You may produce better or worse figures than the above, there are no guarantees, but I think you can appreciate that driving substantial numbers to your site is essential. In the above example a sale a day would entail driving thirty thousand visitors a month to your website.

Two questions need to be answered.

  1. Where to find targeted traffic.

  2. How to ensure that there is enough traffic.

Go where your prospects go.

To find targeted traffic you need to go where your prospects go. Lets say you are in the weight loss market then here are some possibilities …

If you enter the phrase 'weight loss forums' into the search bar of Google, or any other search engine, you will be presented with a list of forums in that market. You can benefit in two ways by visiting these forums. You could join the forum, make comments and answer questions. You could attract the forum members back to your site, advertise on the forum or contact the forum owner and ask if, for a payment, you could email their list of forum members. This technique is known as placing a solo ad.

You could offer to supply original content in the form of articles to the owners of high ranking, good quality websites in the weight loss market. These articles would contain a link back to your website.

Do they have enough subscribers?

To ensure that you have enough traffic you must be certain that the forum or website has sufficient subscribers. Try to start with a small scale test and if this is successful then ramp up the campaign as quickly as possible.

I have deliberately suggested free or low cost traffic finding methods. Buying traffic on a large scale is not for the beginner and will be the subject of another article.

Traffic is the life blood of any online business, crack this skill and you are well on your way to a successful career in the wonderful world of internet marketing.

See you in cyberspace.
