Farmington Hills is part of the suburbs of Metro Detroit, and is the
second largest city in Oakland County. The first settler in what would
later be known as Farmington Township was Arthur Power. Power purchased
land in 1823 and returned the following year with a group of people,
when the area became known as Quakertown. In 1826, a post office - which
is now a historical site - was established and given the name
Farmington. The township of Farmington was organized in 1827. Years
later, Farmington was incorporated as a village in 1866 and as a city in
1926.
