My name is Khalaf Alenezi and I am 29 years old. I am a Canadian citizen and I hold a bachelor degree of electrical engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario graduated in 2009. After my graduation, I went to Kuwait to work to get an international experience in my field. I worked in the ministry of Electricity and water for one year as a control engineer in the National Control Center (NCC). In addition, I worked in Gulf University for Science and Technology from April, 2011 to August, 2013. I worked as a teacher assistant in Mathematics in the Foundation Program Unit (FPU). I have a rich experience of 3 years in the adult education field and I had the opportunity to teach hundreds of students. I have always loved teaching and with each passing day my enthusiasm to teach the bright young minds increases with no bounds. I have worked in Gulf University for Science and Technology as a Mathematics teacher assistant in the Foundation Program Unit (FPU) that is a crucial stage of the adult's education. Throughout my career, I have followed the philosophy of motivating and developing an urge of learning among my students. I believe in practicality of what is taught to the students. So I try my level best, with the resources at my exposure, to include all possible practical examples in my teachings. I have a strong passion to enlighten the young minds, who are going to be the future architects of our nation and of the world. I believe that the dream of a peaceful society can be best achieved by inculcating right values in our adults at the university level, so that when they enter the undergraduate program they are equipped with pearls of wisdom that will guide them at every cross roads. I ensure that every student is involved in the discussions that I engage in my class sessions, so as to increase the teacher student interaction. I firmly believe that every student is unique and has some potential that can be evolved and improved with efforts of the teachers. Teaching is my passion. I teach because, for me, it's the most effective and most enjoyable way to change the world. That's the bottom line: We need to change this world, and this is the way I'm choosing to do it. Teaching allows me to work on hearts and minds, to guide people in becoming empowered, literate, engaged, creative, liberated human beings who want to join in this effort to change the world. I've seen it happen. I always believed that my students could transform and find themselves, in addition to becoming literate people and graduating from university, but now I'm witnessing it. Every student have the power do the impossible but they need time and help from us as teachers. I always knew they could do it, and now they're doing it. Aside of my work, I volunteered in British Council and became a member and a environmental activist in Climate Change Awareness Campaign. I was the second winner of the Climate Champion Program and nominated $5000.00 Canadian dollars. This kind of money went towards to continue my project entitled “Solar Powered Canopies”. As a group, we organized different events, exhibitions and conferences for the general public just to educate them about climate change and how will affect us in the future. Meanwhile, we were given a 3 days program called “train-the-trainer” by Ms. Melody from Inspirengage International. She was one of the amazing people that I met. She’s really inspired me and gave good skills on how to be a good leader. The program was all about leadership, communication skills and project management that were sponsored by the British Council. In addition, I was a member and a volunteer in Kuwait Society of Engineers, Renewable Energy Development Organization (REDO) sponsored by United Nation, Kuwait Environmental Protection Society and Kuwait Green Building Council. We organized environmental events for high school students and new university graduates. I have assisted in organizing conferences and exhibitions in environment. Also, I give presentations and lectures to elementary, secondary and high school students about renewable energy (solar energy). We organized events related to the environment with different governmental and private sectors. My volunteering experience in total is about 4 years in environment and energy. We are in a time of both environmental crisis and opportunity. The environment we live in affects all of us and we in turn affect it. We have witnessed how the debate over climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, global warming, renewable resources and pollution has grown from the grassroots level to an area of chief concern for governments, industries, institutions and individuals. It is therefore critical to both the present and future state of the environment, that dialogue and policy are well informed, thoughtful and inclusive. Sustainable Energy is the world future clean and green energy. However, our world must adopt clean and renewable sources of energy such as wind, solar, geothermal, tidal, and biomass. Truly sustainable development, however, will require the clever integration of renewable energy technologies into existing infrastructure, along with vastly improved efficiencies in non-renewable energy use.
