Another concept for back linking

If you have added comluv or intensedebate to your blog you have taken one step in the right direction.

Unfortunately just adding these plugins to your blog will not get you backlinks.  Those will come when you make comments on others blogs, and they in turn make comments on yours.

I tried to explain a little about the way linking works, since it is a little complicated. It is not as easy as some will have you believe that you just exchange links. It is a numbers game and does require some thought.

Link Juice, whats that?

In a word, link juice is the currency of Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
Link juice is the currency of Google. In other words, it?s the secret sauce that allows you to beat your competitors for rankings in Google. Sure, there are some other factors that Google uses to calculate rankings (see Search Engine Optimization), but link juice is by far the most important aspect of dominating Google and in order to understand Google, you have to understand link juice.

Google looks at how sites link to each other to figure out which ones are the best...

In the world of Search Engine
Optimization (SEO), one of the most important things is getting your
website to be among the first listed on search engine sites. If it
shows up in the first page or two of Google or Yahoo, for instance, many
more people are likely to visit your site. The term link juice is directly concerned in SEO, since this is the juice that will drive up your rankings and bring visitors to your websites.
From Wisegeek.comOne thing to consider is that the site linking in loses link juice, while the site getting the link increases. That being said, not all links are created equal.

If your site has a google PR of 3 your goal should be to get links from sites that have a PR of 4 or better. Likewise, if you are going to spend your link juice, that is link to a site you have to determine if it will benefit you to do so. Sometimes you have to sacrifice PR to get content. Anyway, the point I am trying to make here is that linking takes thought, especially if you are running a business.

You riff me, I riff you, we both winAnother, creative way to get back links is via a concept I just learned about called Riffing. This is also a cool way to keep your content fresh. The way it works is that you find a blog that you like and you extract a quote from it. You then go to your blog and insert that quote, along with the url that you got it from and you write an article based on that quote like what I am doing here.
A Blog Riff is a blog post that takes a quote from another blog as its basis -- its inspiration -- and "riffs" on it.
Riffs always give proper credit by linking back to the original post.Again, going back to the opening paragraphs here, you should get links from sites that have higher PR than you site does. The beauty with this concept, if you give credit where it is due, is that you do not even need to contact the blog owner for permission. The key being that you give credit where you got the quote from.

To make this process better, they have created a badge that you can display on your site to let other bloggers know that you are a "Riffer", here is one example of a small Riff badge

As my friend Joe states this is team sport, that means that using the concept of Riffing, or the Comluv / Intensedebate plugins will only work if you reciprocate.

So after you have these plugins go out and make comments on blogs that you like, that have PR higher than your own. Then maybe others will do the same for you. Alternatively, you can use the site fivver.com and pay for some PR 4 or higher backlinks.

Happy linking!
