Worth Reading?

Would you hire yourself?

 Business Round Table
This question can be of immeasureable value to your efforts as a business person.  An honest answer can tell you if you are truly making the effort to get what you want.  It's time to take stock and do an employee evaluation on yourself.

Step one
Sit down with pen and paper an write our a job description.  Include all of the duties you expect this position to cover.  Be just as serious as you would if you were going to post this in the "Help Wanted" section of your local newspaper classifieds.  Yes even determine the salary you will pay an employee.

Step two
Figure out what the weekly salary for your position is.  Let's not get carried away here.  Use an hourly rate and multiply it by the number of hours you would expect an employee to give you each week.

Step three
Hire yourself.  Write a check out to yourself for the salary you've worked out and post it so you can see it.  Make sure you Void the Check but you want to be able to see how much money you would be giving to someone else to do your job.  Look at that check each day and ask your self if your actions would be acceptable from an employee.  Would you actually pay someone else to do what you did?

Do an employee evaluation on yourself at least monthly for the first 90 days.
Rate your performance attitude and dedication.  Be honest if you had a crappy attitude put it on the evaluation.  If you simply slacked around the coffee pot put it on the evaluation.
Write down the areas where the employee can use improvements and what the employees strengths are.  Now this is going to sound strange but get an envelope and stamp and mail the evaluation to yourself.

The reason you mail it to yourself is psychological.  It makes it more real to you.  You have something tangible in your hands to show you what you need to work on and what your strong points are.

Okay I just earned brownie points on the evaluation. One of the things I have been slacking on is my exercise. My sister and I joined a gym and went in for our evaluation with the personal trainer. I went through everything and did not complain once.

This is the area that I really felt needed help so I'm now setting up a "bonus" program for myself as a reward for keeping on track.

Well to tell you the truth I would most definitely me LOL

Seriously though being a Jill of ALL Trades and master of none I meant really who wouldn't hire me.

It is a great exercise and one that I haven't done in years.

AS for self evalutions I hate them. We had to them x 2 per year and then improve on what we thought our faults were.

Great idea for those looking for work or even online businesses.

This is a great exercise! Sounds like just what I need to get a motivational lift... And you know, this is a great way to set new goals without the expectations being out of reach.

Great read.. I even had to join this group to top you and say thanks!

In a world where all things and people are 'Fuzzified" under a haze of confusion... This is one exercise that can provide a marker towards personal clarity...

The skill of Self Evaluation tends to become rusty when one resides in a world where Self- Comparison ( To Outer/ Other People) is more the norm.

This is often as tough as personal Life Planning, at least for folks who have been taught or whom might have learned, falsely, that purposely doing anything positive and beneficial for one's Self, is wrong...

Think that I'll make myself a sandwich, and review my resume-- I've already hired myself, now it's time to see if I deserve a promotion! :)

Hi Cheryl. Good question for thought.
My 14 year old has such an entrperneurial head on his shoulders. He sometimes ask me, "Mom, are you getting paid what you are worth"? When I questioned what he meant by that, he responded that I should make ceratain that I am getting paid for my time.

Well, as we all know, with home based business, perhaps not always the case. Espcially, in the first year or two. I think this is true with any busines though. On top of that, when one has a passion for something, they ususally do go above and beyond that call.

I love your suggestions, for determining whether or not to hire oneself and writing out a check. I'm going to go do my homework.
Hope others find their way to your blog. Thanks Cheryl!
