Our homes are available for rent for groups and families of up to 10 to 20 people all through the year. Located in the verdant green hills of Coonoor, tucked away in the Nilgiris, Albany Cottage is a charming three-bedroom home. Spread out across 780 sqm, the home will have a built-up area of approximately 3,000 sqft. Albany Cottage will feature terraces, balconies, verandas, a private garden, outdoor dining areas and a private sit out for you and your family to enjoy the stunning vistas that surround you.
The Nilgiris are one of India’s premier holiday destinations renowned for spectacular weather, lush tea plantations, great golfing and crisp mountain air. This home is perfect for those who enjoy spending time close to nature without having to compromise on any of the luxuries of a five-star home. The home will be fully furnished with antiques and artefacts sourced from various palaces and havelis along with handcrafted tiles, teak wood flooring, panelling and wainscoting. Specially commissioned carpets from Kashmir will enhance the naturally treated leather chairs and sofas and hand woven European fabrics. As with every Isprava home, our journey with our homeowners does not end after you move in. We continue to provide property management services so you don’t have to ever lift a finger.

Since Isprava’s inception, we have had a team that only focuses on this. They go out and look for old artefacts and antique furniture to furnish our homes. They work with craftspeople and durbars directly to procure extremely rare and beautiful pieces from its original source. Many of our doors, windows, accents, statues and furniture come directly to us from old havelis, palaces and homes across India and the world. In addition, we also have agents in different parts of the country who approach us whenever an old building, haveli or palace comes up for sale or demolition. This is how we are able to find and use the most incredible pieces in our homes, making every home truly unique.
We also decorate our homes with paintings and works by well-known and reputed artists. We select certain pieces based on the tastes of our homeowners and choose pieces that they will enjoy. For example, one of our homeowners is a horse racing enthusiast so we placed beautiful paintings of horses in his home and also used antique horse sculptures that we found in Europe to decorate his space.
IN CONVERSATION WITH ARCHANA WALAWALKAR
As part of our guest columnist this month we catch up with Archana Walawalkar, co-founder of the online styling platform StyleCracker.
Tell us a bit about your journey and what led you to start StyleCracker?
My journey started with L’Officiel and Vogue magazines and today, I’ve been in the business for about 12 years. Over this time, I’ve worked with the most incredible talent, have styled a long list of celebrities as well as movies. I wanted to impact the way people feel about themselves through the skills and talent I’ve developed over these years and so StyleCracker was born with the intent to build a trusted place for everyone to come and get curated, personalised fashion. There’s something for everyone.
Did you always know you wanted to be in fashion?
I grew up surrounded by costumes and fabrics. My grandfather used to own a circus and there were always people bustling in and out of our house with the most stunning materials and designs. At school, I loved art and illustrating but there were no formal styling courses in India at the time. I did a course in jewellery design and apparel manufacturing where styling was a part of just one semester, and that’s all it took for me to fall in love with it. So, to answer the question, no, I hadn’t always know I wanted to be in fashion, it was fate.
