David's View of Genuine Happiness |
|
Life Is not the most honeyed candy. Sometimes, when I feel as though the world is excessively heavy, I look around and find folks who carry on living charming and wonderful lives. Then thoughts come popping up into my mind like bubbles out of thin air – “How did their life become so endearingly perfumed? How can they still manage to express joy and fool around despite a busy nerve-wracking life?” Then I pause and take note for awhile… I work out that perhaps, they work on a place called ‘self’. Now, how does one become genuinely happy? The first step is: love yourself. One of my professors' once said that “loving implies accepting.” To love oneself means to accept that you are not a perfect being, however, behind the imperfectnesses must dwell a great amount of courage to be capable of discovering means on how to better your repertoire in order to recover from our slips. Genuine happiness also refers to contentment. When you are satisfied with the job you hold, the way you appear, with your family unit, your friends, the home you live in, your car, and evrything you now possess – genuinely, you know the answer to the question “how to be genuinely happy?” Once we discover a small beginning somewhere from within, that little beginning will in time lead to something else. However, if you keep questioning life and how it has done you no good, you will never be able to find genuine happiness. I conceive life as ascertaining about right and wrong, trying and error, winning and losing. These things happen as often as you inhale and exhale. I can assure you… every time you exert effort to better the quality of life and your being, whether it is straightening up your room, aiding a friend, attending your sick dog, failing on board exams and attempting again, life awards you equal points for that. Envisage life as a big score board like those which are used in football and soccer games. Every time you take a footstep forward, you gain a scoring point. Wouldn’t it be pleasant to view that board at the end of each game and say to yourself “WOW! I earned a point today. I’m grateful I gave it a shot”, rather than seeing it all empty and mutter “Man, I did not even hit a score today. I wish I had the backbone to try. We could have won!” Genuine happiness Is not all but driving the spiciest Formula 1 car, nor acquiring the employee of the year award or earning the highest 13th month salary. Occasionally, the most desired booties in life do not always go to the fastest, the strongest or not even the finest. So, how do you become genuinely happy? Every one bears his own definition of ‘happiness’. Happiness for a writer may mean launching as many best selling books as possible. Happiness for a basketball cub could mean getting the cub of the year award. Happiness for a beggar could mean a lot of money. Happiness for a business man could mean success. So, what is the answer to genuine happiness? Simple. You do not have to possess the best things in the world. It is about doing and making the best out of everything. When you notice yourself grinning at your own error and saying to yourself “Mm, I will do better next time”, you pack with you a flare of strong self-will to persevere. You possess a willingness to get up once again and attempt – that will make you a genuinely happy human being. My finale of this momentary lesson: Once you learn to live with yourself and your own flaws. You pass step one in the task “how to become genuinely happy”.For as long as you know how to live with others, you will also be accepted. For as long as you love and know how to love, you will experience love ten fold. “Most of us know that laughter is the best medicine to life’s aches and pains. Most of us don’t know that the best kind of laughter is laughter over one self. When you are able to do that, you will not only be genuinely happy - you will be FREE.
