There is an area near Norfolk NWS that the old folks call "Bloodfield" It got the name because so many people died violent deaths that the rain causes the blood to seep up out of the ground, or at least that's what the old folks say. The area is right outside of the naval base and like any area where lots of military hung out back in the day, it was pretty rough. Crime was rampant. At one point the area was declared off-limits by the military brass because of the danger it presented to the unsuspecting soldiers. The old folks connected the high crime to a natural phenomena. The truth is the ground is mostly red clay and the "blood" is nothing more than natural pigment. It did however make for a good story to keep headstrong youngsters from going into a dangerous area! get protected before it happens to you |
