Own What You Do! - Perspective of a Bushman?

At a time a place not too long ago, when I still had most of my hair and was but a young arrogant punk, I had some work to do operating an industrial wheel loader in a small mill yard. I had basic tasks to do like unloading/loading logs, moving lumber piles and such.

It used to bug the crap out of me whenever I had to get off my lazy BUTT and fix boards or logs or whatever I was trying to move because it had gotten crossed or mixed up in some way where I had to straighten out the load! Down and up, down and up, down and up, how was I supposed to ever get any work done if I had to keep getting down and up? None the Less, there I was, stuck doing my thing and eventually somehow, something happened. Slowly, I got a little better at operating the awkard beast. Eventually I learned to slow down when the road was rough, I learned to focus my attention to what I was doing and soon enough, instead of letting it drive me nuts, I JUST GOT REALLY GOOD AT RUNNING THE THING, I didn't just get good, I Completely MASTERED that once useless machine! Oh Yeah! Now the only time I had to get out of the machine was to re-fuel the piece of junk. When I ran it, I owned it! In fact, what I had learned had no-longer just applied to that particular wheel loader, it applied to any machine I ran, ANY and ALL!

So you may be wondering, Garnet, I thought you were a businessman, what the heck has this got to do anything?

The point is this:

Whatever it is you do in life, whether it be your job, or your business, or maybe even your hobby, whatever you do, OWN IT! Maybe you think I'm a hack, maybe I am a hack, I even know some people look at my profile on these networking sites and they think: "Look at that guy! What the heck is he ever going to amount to? Nothing! He can't even fill out his sig file!" If this is you, if this is what you think, THINK AGAIN! Garnet Nagy is someone who is clear about what he expects out of life, always has been! And Always Will Be. And when I set my mind to something, NOTHING Can STOP Me!

OWN WHAT YOU DO! OR DON'T EVEN BOTHER.

Perspective of a Madman,

Garnet Nagy

I think we all know that Attitude controls Altitude, but I was glad to be reminded! You have shown me, once again, the core attitude I need to bring to all my endeavors, here and offline. Thanks D

Great point. Kind of like my analogy of my business. It's like a car taking me from point A to point B. Now I can Own a car and get absolutely nowhere if it just sits in the driveway, but if I get in it and drive I can reach any destination!

I really like this philosophy! And I think this is the type of post that should passed around to encourage the new person, or even the person who is struggling to master "whatever" they are interested in. Reading material like this keeps me motivated to continue learning.

Thanks David, your comments bring me much reassurance, this is the mere start of where I am going online, can't wait to post my next articale!

Cheryl, I love the analogy! We are all in the drivers seats, where we go is entirely up to us as individuals.

Rae, keep on learning! The day we quit is the day we die, Always Grow!

Hi Garnet...

Really enjoy your perspective on learning and owning your actions

I remember being real good with a dbl blade/sided axe when i worked
for the forest service ... others were in awe at how easily I could put
an edge back on it...

I've never gotten to run heavy machinery except to drive an initial
assault fire tanker for a state forestry one summer....

the closest thing I have in mind to being so frustrating to operate is
a new sewing machine that I had and the tension would not adjust
correctly... finally I took it in to have it looked at only to be told the machine
couldn't be adjusted. Penneys wouldn't take the machine back because
I didn't have the receipt...

But I do know how to own a sewing maching, a double headed axe,
a hunting bow for deer hunting, and even my acoustic (of course) classical
guitar even if I'm only at the so called intermediate level!

yes... intermediate level owned it!

HA HA..."intermediate level owned it!" Love it!

Kinda sounds like the perspective of a double-edged axe wielding power-marketer! LOL!
