What makes for Great Content? I've seen that question before....

Posted Date: 2007-09-21 17:50, Pageview: 546
What makes for great Content? I've seen that question addressed by many members here at APSense and also all over the internet. It's a question I puzzle over all the time. Here's why:

(((Note: this was written several months ago when APSense had a different policy in place for rating blogs and articles... for those of you who are new to APSense! And I just re-read this and ealize that it's a little outdated in that regard! but thought ...well...let's bring this back up to the top and have another look at it because it is six months anniversary for me here at APSense and I think the same for many of the rest of us! Happy Anniversary APSense! )))

There are so many times I have visited blogs here at APSense that are well written, informative, and useful for online marketers only to see that someone has 'dropped' it... There is no explanation for such a rating as far as I can tell. Is that because I see a short blog to let us know about a business opportunity as a valid entry? Partly. But it also happens to those here who actually write articles or have blogs that they've put time and care into to make it worthwhile for everyone...

Content should be of interest to your reader. So, that is who you write for. Are you writing for the majority or members on a Social Business Network or for the members you would like to join your affiliate program? Blogs are an excellent way to get your business information out to the general membership knowing that it's more likely that your target audience will see it. There is a risk in doing that here because someone might deem your blog/article as -1 or thumbs down.

Content should be easy to read and few typos... I see APSense as a learning ground for all of us to get accustomed to writing about our interests, hobbies, online marketing etc. I know when I first started marketing online, I was nervous about what to write for ads, forums, blogs etc. I stayed away from the blogger typ sites because I just wasn't ready for it yet. That's what's so great about APSense and other SN's... you can publish what you want and get rewarded for it... there's an incentive...especially with the WOA.... like whoa... that's cool!

Content should be just long enough for the reader wih only a moment to peruse it but long enough for getting your key points across. If you are able to create copy that is formatted correctly so that it isn't a strain on the eyes ... that is very important for reading online... Paragraphs should be separated by white space or a dbl space. It is best to keep sentences short but I'm terrible at that one! ... and don't be afraid to elaborate on a specific point that requires it.

Content can be humorous Whether you have down home humor or are from Brooklyn NewYork... express that humor that is essentially you.

Content can be intellectual That is definitely not my style but I do know a new friend who has joined here that is bringing an intellectual aspect to this community.

Content can be Commercial?

Blogging online is ideal for promoting your business opportunities. There is no better way to become known by your name or user ID... and that is to Blog and promote yourself! Everyone who starts to earn has learned that promotion ~ done in a way that suits who they are and who they are reaching out to ~ is the key to success for online marketing. It is arduous work to post classified ads, to write even the simplest of blogs about your business, to do all the tasks that we do as online marketers...

No matter what you write here at APSense if I find the time to read it and post a comment, then I'm proud to give you a thumbs up for your effort and for what you have taken the time to do for my benefit... the possibility of finding that one opportunity that will suit me... that will bring in that extra income stream that we're all helping one another achieve.

After all, not every opportunity works for just anyone... funny how that works!

thanks for reading

Beth

Great Article Beth, I am not very good at writing and my team keeps telling me
just to do it. So I started by posting to articles and have written a couple of
post myself. I am so glad that I can practice here and that you guy understands
that not everyone has the talent to write great.

I do think or hope I am improving and I'm glad you approve of humor, cause
thats what I use.

I guess I havent been here for a while (is that one word or two?) awhile... and
I need to thank the many more positive comments that I'd gotten for this.... I
actually forgot that I'd even written it....

So... I decided to put it on my new blog with a twist... I included all of your
comments and pics ...i have no problem with copying and pasteing what I
write to other places although it is frowned on by some...

anyway, here's the link: http://bethsventures-make-money-online.blogspot.com/2007/11/what-makes-for-great-content-ive-seen.html

I'm hoping the spiders have a feeding frenzy on all of your links/urls and
APSense info...and I figure it will be good for APSense ...

talk later!
Beth

Adding GOOD VALUE articles to social networkings bookmarks! That'a a real help for the author if you love his/her article! And it's easy to do. Until now I just topped others' articles and wrote comments, sending only sime of my articles to Digg and Del.icio.us but I would spend some more time on articles I like in order to send them there. Thanks Juri for reminding.

Beth

You never cease to amaze me. What a great article (hmmm have to research some new words LOL)

One question though for the sake of sounding obtuse

How in the devil do you rate a site here. I know I can post a Testimony but have no clue how rate them (doh!!)) LOL

Help would be nice

Really enjoyed your article, Beth. I have been hesitant to blog, especially about the programs I have joined because my theory is, if I haven't made anything, how can I write about it? I don't like say "you'll make lots of money with this program" when I myself have not. So I have not really blog about business opportunities, though based upon your article, I think I can blog about other things of interest. Thanks for the inspiration!

Good job Beth! I do have one little.....question. I see everyone saying that you should write content that the reader will enjoy or wants to read. While that's true, what about writing a little about yourself and what YOU like even if not everyone else does? The reason I ask is because my logic is that people still want to know who you are and what you're like through your writing, otherwise the "personal connection" is lost especially in this age of the internet.

NOTE: the word "you" is being used collectively below.

Wouldn't this make you "real"? Think about it, who's going to call you on the phone just to get to know you and hear your voice after reading a blog or post? I don't mean this offensively, just posing a question on something I think about. Or am I getting the blog posting and writing of articles confused?

Great subject question and post.

I have always maintained that content is relevant in the eyes of the beholder. One person will read War and Peace and the other may settle for Playboy. To each, it's good content!

It's all about writing for an audience. If you write "good content" in the strictest sense of the word, you'll probably have a very small audience as you pointed out. This happens in all media format.

The key is to write "relevant content" which means writing on topic for a target market.

I could do that easily on an article site that lists articles by categories and sub-categories.

Trying to do that in irrelevant group discussions on social sites is a little daunting. You may have to select a category to post, but they are not displayed by categories. If they were, we would not have people clicking on your article link and then decide to drop it.

This Group "OYesUcan" is one of the few groups here that caters to a target market.

I second that notion! Great article Beth. The categories here certainly should help to help bloggers reach their target audience. With regard to thumbs down, and people who use it... I prefer not to focus on those who have a need to bring others down. In my opinion, there is never a need to pull someone down - if you don't like it, move on.
