Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is advertising for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.

There are two main types of spam and they have different effects on Internet users. Cancellable Online spam is a single message sent to Online newsgroups and/or subscribed members. Online spam is aimed at "lurkers", people who read newsgroups/posts but rarely or never post and give their real address away. Online spam robs users of the utility of the newsgroups by overwhelming them with a barrage of advertising or other irrelevant posts.

Email spam targets individual users with direct mail messages. Email spam lists are often created by scanning Online postings, stealing Internet mailing lists, or searching the Web for addresses. Email spams typically cost users money out-of-pocket to receive. Many people - anyone with measured phone service - read or receive their mail while the meter is running, so to speak. Spam costs them additional money. On top of that, it costs money for ISPs and online services to transmit spam, and these costs are transmitted directly to subscribers.

One particularly nasty variant of email spam is sending spam to mailing lists (public or private email discussion forums). Because many mailing lists limit activity to their subscribers, spammers will use automated tools to subscribe to as many mailing lists as possible, so that they can grab the lists of addresses, or use the mailing list as a direct target for their attacks.

More about spam coming soon?

Hi Teodor, your English is well... for sure better than mine... and for the rest... take it with humor. Have a nice day. Claudia P.S. I'm sure, a lot of Apsense members got comments like that, me too, but for all the good features here, I'm ready to accept their rules.

Hi Teodor, The Apsense Group that is the Group that the Apsense owners have! is the THE APSENSE GROUP any old group at apsense .... mine or yours... has it's own rules... and if it is a group for listing your ventures...that does not make it a spam farm as I have heard it called here at Apsense. Yes, it is a matter of symantics... and you sure let your correspondent that you have full command of the English Language !! LOL ! Good or you... I wish you well my friend... don't worry about it... most of us know what's what here... just network with those that accept you for who you are... and block out anyone who would assume that a second language, or being too busy to monitor a thread, is the reason that there is spam? I say block them! (smile) Beth

Hi Theodore, I dont understand the problem. The ApSesnse Group is the official Group belonging to the owners and where mainglyu community related information is found. vAnd as we are all members of it - they have a very strict no advertising no promoting ruie. Lets facce it .- if it was broken by over 10,000 people, we'd never find the content. LOL The OtherGroups have their own rules, as has alrady been pointed out. Some have no ad rules, but allow signatures, some are for promoting etc. You just have to read the rules, if there are any when you join. We are permitted to report spam if we wish - as they do not want this to become yet another Social networking community full of adverts with no content to read. Itis new system and still needs some things ironing out - but the possibility of having a relatively spam free community where we can concentrate of relationship building is certainly one I find very attractive. I pèrsonally dont see much point in leaving the ApSense main group - it just means you wont receive notifications of new events through them. And often they are announced there first. and yfou wont be able to post your opinions there either - and I am very much aware that our contributions there are read by the management. - as they are building and improving all the time and want construcctive feedback. Your choice, my opinion. Saludos Jenny

Yes Jenny, I agree with you 99%, but let my 1% to ask: 1. - Who in the heaven (do not say in the hell..., smile!) have time to read all long and interminable rules? I'm a businessman and want to do business. In a normal world, there are set-up 10 main commends, and the rest is interpretation… 2. – What I did there was far away from Spam! Their restrictions do not refer to Spam but they are constrains and limits that may inhibit any good intentions. To oblige people buy telling them what to write and how to write means discipleship not communication! But I didn’t ask for their training program and for being their pupil. I just wanted to help somebody and said: “there on my Apsense (not other!) page you’ll find the answer… What’s wrong with this I’ll never understand?? How this can be Spam, I also don’t know!? Forget it! Better let’s talk about real Spam. Next time I’ll post a real definition of Spam here. Smile all (they don’t have Smiles. Teodor

Wikipedia Spam Definition: "Spamming is the abuse of electronic messaging systems to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages!!! While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, mobile phone messaging spam, internet forum spam and junk fax transmissions." Hi friends, I've seen that almost nobody reads my blog articles...! But when I write a short text and send someone to a source of income (good or bad...) many click and go! I've received mails from one lady (who joined one of my groups) only with her link, no title, no content, no words... However, when I write an article I put a link, usually at the end and I think this is normal, but when you just send links and ads, it's not correct. What can be done? I've warned that lady about spam but she seems do not understand; as I did at the beginning here ; ) So, I think that wont be easy to fulfill your goal, but if those who understand what Apsense means will have a word to say about business ethics and will have a correct position against spam, we all will succeed. I'll do my best to help you in this, even if I don't pretend that I'll be perfect, because we all are human beings and make mistakes. But, we must do our best in order to have a successful business community here. Thanks for your contribution to a clean business at Apsense, Teodor

I had the same issue. I also did a little notice - if you want to join my group ... and i was instantly contacted by staff member pointing out that this is not allowed. Anyway, it doesn't matter if I like or dislike this kind of policy I wouldn't leave the Apsense group cause I want to interact with other members. I do not understand however the policy on URLs - because in one of the discussions the users was asking for brief info on how Apsense works - but I did not point this user to this article. So, the conclusion is - that not all of the links should be considered as spam. There is a thing that can happen to Apsense, with lots of crowd joining and then dropping their activity just because they can not find any useful info on how this networking site works. In the end, only Apsense will lose for this kind of policy.
