Ads in my Inbox... Does this bug you too?

 Apsense
I am so aboslutely delighted with APSense and all the tools and resources it has to offer. Social Business Networks is definately the way of the future for internet marketing - those who use it appropriately and effectively will certainly be the money makers.

BUT

So very few people use it appropriately or effectively! I know that everyone is doing their best, and are doing what they have been taught. I think that there is a definate market for some good quality training on effectively using all the amazing resources that are offered here.

There is a place for blatent advertising - even on business networking site, but the inbox is NOT one of them. When I add someone to my contact list, or they add me to their's, that is NOT permission to send "JOIN THIS BUSINESS NOW" messages. Agreeing to network is not agreeing to be pitched to. Even if it was considered "opt in", it is completely ineffective.

People need only to put themselves in the place of the recipient. Do you want to receive your message box full of recruit ads? I don't, and I bet you don't either.

I find it irritating because I have to sift through my message box for legitimate messages. My APSense message box is starting to look like my email inbox - full of spam.

Thanks for reading...

Karen Weir

Hi Dawn, welcome! I agree - too many sponsors leave their new people high and dry, but I think that is because they too lack good training.

Hello Chantel, do you think that sending cut/paste ads to your contacts is effective relationship building? We agree that networking is about building relationships, and I really don't mind someone sending me information about their business - IF they have read my profile and believe it is something that is relevent to me and IF it is not a cut/paste advertisement.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for inviting me here. And, yes, how true it is. I blame that completely on the fact that there is no real sponsorship out there. The newbies are getting stuck in an automated internet junction.

Thanks Dawn

Contacting members in your network is Fine...

But please everyone, find out about your associate, develop a relationship, ask questions befor pointing them to an Opportunity..

We have more people asking us about our programs.

That is the best way

Hi Karen and all,

I think from having read the posts on this group that it is very clear that we are still on a learning curve at ApSense. We join most Communities as the newbie amongst a lot of established members who know each other and who have already started conversations before we got there.

Here we are all new and were are no conversations started to join in with - it is only now that i notice that discussions are beginning to develope - like this one and others - as people are beginning to find each other and get to know each other.

As you rightly say, there is no clear policy on advertising in PMs - but I think that people will soon find that they are NOT accpetable to many members and will not help them gain business .

You talk about a lot of internet marketers floundering. I think this where ApSense will be able to help in the long term - if it continues its present direction of not becoming an ad list, but aims for content. That way one can learn and learn to discern the wheat from the chaff from the various programmes that are on offer.

The other point that you made is very true - Internet itself is part of the problem. People use selling methods here that they would never dare to use face to face in business. How can you sell a programme saying you can make 20,000$ a month when you are not earning 20$? Offline it is called misleading people or even lying. Online it is called "promoting". If there was an advertising code online obliging people to be scrupulously truthful - as there is in many countries OFFLINE - 90% of all ads would disappear overnight!

The only rule on the internet that i know that works is do your due diligence and CAVEAT EMPTOR, because when you buy a dud - you probably wont be able to sue the seller!

Hi Diana, Welcome to the Community!

As you build your contact list, you are really free to communicate with them in any way you wish. I don't believe there are APSense rules about what is ok to send in a personal message. If you want to be EFFECTIVE, you wouldn't send copy/paste ads to your contacts.

The more I participate in discussions on this topic - whether the blatent ads are showing up in the inbox or in groups, the more I realize that we are evolving. I don't think it is so much about breaking rules as it is about learning how to develop relationships.

In my opinion, many internet marketers are fumbling and floundering. They are not making any money and they are desperately trying to. They are posting ads all over the place and wondering why they aren't seeing results.

I think this is due in large part to all the lies on the internet. Everyone claims to be a six figure earner and yet we know that the stats indicate very few actually are. There are claims of fast effortless wealth that are completely false. Anyone who is making money online knows that it takes time, effort and skill development.

Unfortunately, some don't understand that and they fail to invest in their own education.

Hi I am new here but from what I am reading I would not be happy if my inbox started filling with Adds.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that in the rules it was a complete no no and if we wanted to advertise we had another section here to do so.

please advise me on this.

Thank you and regards
Diana

I think that most spammers (I did it too) are just in the process of learning. They don't know otherwise because most letters in on their Inboxes are similar. It takes time, til they will get ower of this. Experience makes people wise.

I (equally respectfully! lol) agree with Lynn and Karen.

Copy paste ads in my in box are a no-no. If someone wants to sell me something - please have the courtesy to look at my profile and see if it is the kind of thing that i might be interested in. Otherwise you are wasting both our time.

I can honestly say that I have NEVER bought anything from a copy paste advert. What I hvae bought into are things that have been presented to me by people that know me and think might be of genuine interest.

With all the advertising in the various internet social and business communities - I do not believe tht we can afford to allow ApSense to become yet another one where everyone flings their opportunities at each other and forgets to get to know each other and share their expertise and experiences. That way we will kill the goose that laid the golden egg and it will become as valueless as many other communities around.

I respectfully disagree Beth. APSense is about networking, and networking does not involve sending unsolicited ads. Networking is about sharing information, resources and helping others. It is about building relationships, and as Lynn points out, it is important to send information relevent to the person's interests etc.

When I get a message with a subject line: "JUMP IN AND HOLD ON" and the body is a copy/paste ad that is also placed in 7 groups, it is quite evident to me that person did not take a minute to look at my profile and has no interest in developing a relationship with me.

Another thing that people don't seem to realize is that when they hop around pasting their ads into multiple groups, the same ad comes up in their network's Apsense Express system multiple times.

To me, it screams I AM DESPERATE and Unprofessional. But more than that, it tells me the person does not know what they are doing.

I don't mind private messages that give me links or ask me to look at an opportunity... as long as its a real message and not an ad. As a matter of fact I received a very nice one just a few minutes ago that asked my opinion on a specific opportunity. It was a personal message, not a copy/paste and not a direct solicitation - and the fellow clearly read my profile.
