It’s the off-season, and most of us aren’t thinking about our RV.  We’re letting it sit in the carport, or in storage, and won’t even consider making improvements until summer rolls back around.  But if you think about it, isn’t it better to be prepared before you need it?  Let’s take a minute to discuss one of the most irritating parts of our RV and camper experience, the mattress.

Whoever decided to put cheap, thin mattresses in RVs and campers was an idiot.  Idiot number two was the genius who decided to make the mattresses in special sizes, so you can’t find them anywhere but at the RV lot.  After a long day of driving, outdoor activities, or wrestling with the grandkids, the last thing that I want is to lie down on an uncomfortable mattress.  I don’t want to wake up sore and cranky when I’m on vacation.  But then if I go to a store to try and find a RV mattress replacement, the one’s at the RV lot are the same as what I’ve got, and the regular mattress stores don’t carry the right size.  It’s a racket.

I’ve heard from other RVers to put a topper on the mattress, or an extra mattress pad.  But that’s not really going to fix my issue with the mattress.  I’m still going to feel the springs, and I’m still going to wake up grumpy.  So I searched around, online, for RV mattresses.  I figured that if I could find somewhere in the continental US that had what I wanted, I could just drive there in the RV next summer, and get one.  I found a website that carries them (a regular bedding store to boot), and called them.  I asked for the best RV mattress, and was told that memory foam was probably going to be the best option.  I am not excited about memory foam, so the store said that they carried innerspring camper mattresses, that they could make in any size.  They sent me the information, and these aren’t the 6” junky ones that we all have.  They are thick, padded, and just like a regular mattress!  Sold!

The reason that I’m letting everyone know about this now is that some of these mattresses take 8 weeks to make.  They are made by hand.  This means that they might not be the least expensive, but there’s craftsmanship there.  And if you’re like me, you spend six months out of the year living out of your RV.  That makes it worth it to me.  So, if you’re looking for an RV bunk mattress, a short queen, or any memory foam size you can think of, go to www.DrSnooze.com.  They’ll set you up with a great RV mattress at a pretty good price!
