Why people use Fake Pictures?

I am sure I deny 80% of the profile pictures on here. Unless you really ARE Taylor Swift....who do you think you're fooling? But why? A couple reasons:
1) There is a silly fear of showing your own photo to strangers on the net. And yet, don't strangers see you when you walk down the street?
2) Using the photo of a supposedly more attractive person makes them more likely to be noticed and and added and "liked"

Well I think it is nothing but cheating and cheater always leave some errors or do mistakes and they get caught no matter how clever they are or they think they are. Similar case is I just witnessed and after a little research I found the rel person behind the scene.
But still I think, "Only those hide behind fake pictures who do not have self confidence" am I right?

Some people use fake pictures to hide their identity especially if they are hiding from someone. Some people use fake pictures because they do not want to be exposed in public. Some are more comfortable using fake pictures because they can do whatever they want online without being recognized by the people they know. Although not all people use fake pictures there are countless people who use fake pictures. Whatever their purpose is for doing that is their own choice and we cannot do anything about it. But then many people are very honest and use their real pictures. I use my own picture because I want to gain the trust of others.

I think it works best just being yourself, using real photos, and being honest. I sell Avon, I have a Degree in Advertisement and a license in Cosmetology. I take 50% rate for your question my friend which means 50% agree and 50% disagree so what because people always have difference opinions about their face especially when they think that their face are ugly and not fit with new people around them.i my self for the example.

That is another reason I don't jump straight into a Business on here now. If the person is genuine there is every chance the business is good. And if the business is good why should you jump straight in? it won't be going anywhere in a hurry. But maybe the person could be facially disfigured and then they could design or use a business logo

Josh, Photo rules in here specifically say no fake photos and no cartoons/logos. When I see a business logo I deny it as per the TOS. This is why I don't use my own logos here

@faii, I did not say fake/cartoon logos. I said business logo which should represent the business you are in. You see them everyday now on the News Feed

Nowadays, I choose to accept contact requests from members with non personal pictures. It gives me a chance to talk to them about better ways to brand themselves. I'm convinced some of them are simply trying to stand out from the crowd, but they don't realize it's better to choose a real picture, the same pic on every site, for us to be able to recognize them easily and connect with them on those other sites too.

Lol I just realized that when I see a fake picture and I'm being asked if I accept the picture, I click "no" :)

You might wonder why I'm being asked to approve the picture? It's a question of Honor Points, if I remember correctly. don't know how many it takes, but I have enough. Maybe it's a question of membership level, I can't confirm, since I am a Premium member.

To clarify, I believe the question should have been "Why do people use fake pictures to disguise themselves?" Many times, it has nothing to do with the person wanting to "hide" themselves for a particular reason; they merely lack self confidence to post an actual picture of themselves. True, many are used for shameless self promotion of their business, but I think more often than not, it's a matter of confidence in one's appearance.

I totally Agree with you - Presenting yourself with real picture shows how much courage you have to face the world with your good and bad habits or skills which give you the opportunity to explore your inner side more and allow to grow. So if you want to learn and grow than you have to come with honesty.

When people use fake pictures they do so because they do not have the confidence to represent themselves. There is also a doubt in the mind as to what will happen and how people will react when they see my pictures. So there is an insecurity that creeps into the mind. Thus people think that by using fake pictures, it does not matter if they do not represent themselves but they are fulfilling the terms of service and by doing so and thinking in such a way they are doing the wrong thing.
