@Aaru, thanks for spelling it out so clearly!

It truly boggles the mind seeing the next comment by @Ryan displaying nothing but plain ignorance and an obvious inability to even try to communicate like he had any desire to use his brain a bit better while spending time online.

Smoking causes severe internal inflammation in our system. As the smoke hits our nostrils, it eventually surpasses through the ducts and blood vessels of our body. Thus, it affects each cell of our body as well as the organs on a bigger note. Smoking several cigarettes in small succession increases the risk of damaging the organs with cancerous cells, even more. When inflammation occurs, our tissues repair automatically, and sadly, it paradoxically works in case of a smoker. The inflammatory chemical reaction can trigger damages to our DNA, making the mutant cells more likely to be a possibility. This is also how cancer happens in most of the cases.

If you are a chain smoker, as the number of cigarettes you smoke over a period increases, your chance of developing cancer also goes up each time. Unfortunately, secondhand or passive smokers are also becoming harsh victims of cancers. There is a notion that cancer only affects our lungs and increases the risk of getting lung cancer. Shockingly, there are almost 8 to 9 types of cancers, associated with smoking.

1. Oral Cancer
2. Larynx Cancer
3. Throat Cancer
4. Esophagus Cancer
5. Kidney and Pancreas Cancer
6. Colon Cancer
7. Cervical Cancer
8. Myeloid Leukemia
9. Stomach Cancer

The smoke of tobacco contains more than 7000 chemicals including nicotine. Out of those, about 70 chemicals cause cancer. Not only cigarettes but also pipes, cigars and other tobacco chewing products like Gutkha, Pan masala cause all of these cancers.

However, prevention is always better than cure. Even if you have been a chain smoker for long, the healing process starts as soon as you quit or reduce the frequency of smoking. Furthermore, to prevent the disease, we all need to come together and raise awareness regarding smoking and its ill effects.

Smoking can cause cancer and then block your body from fighting it: Poisons in cigarette smoke can weaken the body's immune system, making it harder to kill cancer cells. When this happens, cancer cells keep growing without being stopped. Poisons in tobacco smoke can damage or change a cell's DNA.
