I went through the process of using a free system and found that it wasn't that beneficial in the long term if you are considering being serious about marketing. Personally I use TrafficWave as it is relatively easy to use and it is also an income generator. My thought process is that you benefit yourself best by using tools that can generate an income as well.

Avoid a program called "Auroresponder Unlimited". It's self hosting and very insecure and will soon get your site listed as spamming unless you are very careful.

In my opinion, there are two major players in my mind that really stand out. Getresponse and Sendfree. But the truth of the matter is, it all depends on your personal needs.

I sometimes use SendFree which is good for a free autoresponder but I think you are better using a paid version. I use TrafficWave as it earns me an income too.
