The story is very thrilling. Everyone recognize Dodge Hanley as a private investigator who doesnt let rules come in his way, whether it is his private life or his professional one. If he ever breaks a heart, or breaks the law in order to catch a criminal, he does it without any shilly-shallying or regret. That is the reason why he is the first person, Caroline King asks for help when a crazy follower attempts to murder their daughter.
Dodge has never met his daughter. Dodge and Caroline had separated thirty years ago. He has a whole bagful of unwilling excuses for wishing to ignore Carolines call, and one convincing reason guilt to drop everything and fly down to Texas. Dodges mind may be a cloud of upsetting memories and bad decisions, but he enters in Houston eloquent with perfect intelligibility that his daughter, Berry, is in danger.
