Review on Spinal Cord Injuries

A total of 184 patients underwent Spinal Cord Injury treatment and out of them 162 patients returned the filled post treatment questionnaires.

56.8% of the patients reported clinical Improvements.

Bladder and bowel functions showed improvement in 37.7% and 35.7% of the patients respectively.

52.7% of these patients experienced lesser neurogenic pain, while 50.7% reported improved muscle spasm. The Baclofen pump used in the treatment of spasm could be removed permanently in 2 patients.

The pre and post-treatment ASIA Score forms were collected from 25% cases (46 patients). Post treatment, there was a significant increase in the mean ASIA motor score (p < 0.001) with 6.0 points. There was a jump of more than 11 points (p < 0.001) in the mean ASIA sensory score. However, there was a change in ASIA classification in 4 cases: ASIA-A (complete motor /sensory loss below SCI) changed to -B (complete motor loss) in 3 cases, and ASIA-C (major motor loss) changed to -D (minor motor loss) in a single case. There was no deterioration of health in these 46 patients during the course of the study.
