Review on One Plus 5T

n a relatively short period of time, OnePlus has steadily built a stream of loyalists. So much so that when the brand launches a new phone, there is a considerable amount of buzz and anticipation. It was no different when recently OnePlus finally took wraps off its much teased smartphone the OnePlus 5T. This is a device which boasts of many firsts -- OnePlus 5T is the first smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer to sport a bezel less display with 18:9 aspect ratio, face unlock feature and a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. Thats not all as to go with these new features, the smartphone offers all the high-end specifications, which makes it a worthy competitor to take on the other flagship smartphones available in the market. Priced on the same lines as the OnePlus 5, the smartphone promises to offer a better user experience as compared to its predecessor. We tested the OnePlus 5T for some time and here is our complete review of the device.
Design and display
Reduce the bezel area and position the fingerprint sensor differently in OnePlus 5 and you will find yourself holding the new OnePlus 5T. Yes, you read it right. The major design difference in both the devices is the larger display and a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. The all-new OnePlus 5T comes with a seamless aluminium unibody with rounded edges, just like its predecessor. The smartphone is available in Black colour option and its rear panel comes with an anti-fingerprint coating layer which makes it smudge-free. Despite being slightly heavier than the OnePlus 5, the smartphone looks pretty sleek and its slightly contoured sides offer a firm grip to the user. One of the major design changes and the USP of the device is its bezel-less display. The OnePlus 5T features a 6.01-inch AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The front panel of the smartphone only consists of the screen and the 16MP front camera. With this new smartphone, the company has ditched its pill shaped fingerprint sensor placed on the display. Now the rear of the device consists of a circular fingerprint senor along with dual rear camera setup and OnePlus branding. Other than this, the placement of all the buttons remains the same. The power button is located on the right with the SIM card tray, while the volume rockers are there on the left. The bottom of the smartphone is home to the USB Type C, speaker grille and the 3.5mm audio jack. We were already impressed with the design on the OnePlus 5 and we can say the same is the case with 5T.

Coming to the main highlight of the smartphone, the display. The OnePlus 5T sports a 6.01-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. This is the first smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer to come with a full screen display. The company has also coated the display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 in order to protect it from any kind of scratches. The display is crisp and clean and it also enhances the visual appearance of the device. One of the major complaints we had with the OnePlus 5 was visibility of the display under direct sunlight. We used the OnePlus 5 for quite some time and were not really happy with the performance of the display. But, it seems that the company has corrected itself with the OnePlus 5T. The smartphone comes with a sunlight display, which adapts automatically to harsh light to facilitate a great viewing experience. It automatically adjusts the screen contrast and keeps the screen display clear in four commonly used scenarios: when you access your gallery, take a photo, record a video and gaming.
So, this time when we tested the device under direct sunlight, we were impressed with its display performance. Other than this, the display also has the reading mode and night mode found in other OnePlus smartphones. The device gets a thumb up from us this time in the display department.
Performance and camera
The OnePlus 5T is powered by Qulacomms flagship processor Snapdragon 835 and comes with 6GB and 8GB RAM respectively. In terms of storage, the device offers 64GB and 128GB internal storage, which can be expanded further by adding a microSD card. There were no issues with the performance of the smartphone. Be it gaming or watching videos, multitasking or using heavy apps everything seemed like a cake walk. You can run a large number of apps simultaneously, without noticing a single second of lag and switch between apps with ease. The smartphone also comes with App Priority, which increased the launch speed of your favourite apps, while keeping apps you rarely use from taking up too much memory. If you are a hardcore gamer, then the handset also offers a Gaming DND mode, which enables the users to play their favourite games without being bothered by unnecessary notifications. Despite its aluminium design, we didnt face heating issues with the smartphone. We ran multiple benchmark tests on the smartphone and it scored 174252 in the Antutu test and 1954 and 6622 in Geekbench single core and multi core tests respectively.
