Why is liver transplant done?If the doctor suggests a liver transplant for a person with end stage liver disease, the chances of that persons survival with such a condition is less. Thus liver transplant surgery is needed.

Autoimmune hepatitis
Biliary atresia, liver disease in newborns
Digestive disorders
However the medical team will also consider other factors when determining whether a person needs a liver transplant, which are-
It depends on the severity of the person's condition
The person has other medical conditions
History of tuberculosis and having a chronic infection such as HIV
Overall physical condition
Mental health of the person
The level of support from the patient's family or friends

Based on the results of some of the above tests, the doctor will assess the severity of the patient's disease and the patient's general health and place your name on the transplant waiting list.
Transplant waiting list priority is determined by two scoring systems known as models for end-stage liver disease (MELD) for adults and paediatric end-stage liver disease (PELD) for children under 12 years of age.
The higher the MELD/PELD score, the better chance the patient has of being at the top of the transplant waiting list (minimum score is 6 and maximum is 40). If the patient's condition worsens, your name is moved up the waiting list.
