With telematics gaining importance due the safety and comfort it offers, the industry is witnessing massive scope of improvement. BI intelligence report, in 2016 stated that the connected car manufacturing and ownership are set to increase exponentially. The current scenario of the automotive industry shows ample development in the connected car sector with a prime focus on ownership, business model and new stakes in the industry.
While the first connected car was brought into the picture in the mid-90s, however, it was far from the reach of normal people. With time and evolution through different phases, it is now available in the economic automotive segment too. The initial phase was - connectivity. The cars were able to contact call centers for roadside assistance or cash notifications. Post this, further amends in the technology were made, and infotainment connectivity came into picture. This transformation was marked by Bluetooth connectivity and now major social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. also an addition. This is so much, so a necessity now that up to 70 per cent of the younger generation of drivers quotes this as a must-have when purchasing a car.
In a forecast by major automotive trend analysers, it is stated that 75 per cent of the cars will be connected cars by 2022. The technology now eyes at the convergence of cloud computing system with connected cars. This technology is seen a leap in the evolution in the automotive sector. The new generation of connected cars used data as the fuel changing the existing trends.
