This was our question recently as had just moved onto a nice property so we could grow our own vegetables. My wife and I have become increasingly concerned with the source of our food, both the security of supply as well as the quality of the food, even organic. In addition, the cost of organic produce is expensive as we all know and growing locally saves the environment.
I had been raised on a farm but it has been eons since I lived on one and my memory of gardening was a spring and summer of back breaking labor, beginning with tilling the land, then the endless weeding and finally the harvest followed by the fall clean up and putting things in order until spring.
We were up for the job but before we began I wanted a comprehensive guide to get started. Google results brought up an interesting site called  Food4Wealth, by a guy named Jonathan White.
Jonathan is an environmental scientist and has been interested in horticulture all of his life. By applying his knowledge of both fields and using his findings studying the natural environment, Jonathan came up with the Food4Wealth system.
What caught my eye with the site was really 3 things.
First, they said the system was virtually labor free, just 8 hours of work per year in maintaining the garden with the most labor intensive being harvesting your bounty on an almost daily basis in order to keep things growing more. I was skeptical of this until I bought  Food4Wealth  and looked at Jonathans system. Indeed, his method of growing plants close together eliminates the need for weeding, as well, the way in which your prepare the ground eliminates tilling and constant watering. I was getting impressed.
Secondly, the site said we could grow all the vegetables we need in a 15 foot by 15 foot plot of land. Growing in such a tight area would not only free other land for us, but I could also see the amount of work we would need to do on an ongoing basis would be kept to a minimum. After all, how much would could a 225 foot plot really be?
Thirdly, Jonathan said his Food4Wealth program  will grow food year round. We live near Vancouver, Canada and though we are not frozen as hard as the rest of our country, we still have some frosty nights and sometimes we do get a bit of snow. Jonathan provides lists of vegetables which work well for our climate in his system and are frost resistant. He also provides a schedule you can use in any climate zone and still get produce during every season.
So, we purchased  Food4Wealth.
What we got was an Ebook explaining the whole system, a step by step plan to building our garden, a maintenance schedule as well as a complete list of materials.
Jonathon believes in keeping costs down and has many practical suggestions of ways and places to get free materials and offers alternatives to materials which may be expensive or hard to get in your area. My wife and I are also excited about starting a fruit garden using the same  Food4Wealth  methods and growing strawberries, raspberries and apples in it. The directions are included in the program guide. Jonathan Whites system for growing an eco-organic garden is really second to none. It is based upon sound principles and concepts. It is easy to use and not expensive to set up and maintain. Finally, the system requires little work during set up and throughout the year. We highly recommend Food4Wealth!
