Art deals worth a total $6.6 billion went through Christies this year, including the whopping $450.3 million sale of Leonardo da Vincis Salvator Mundi, which ultimately went to the newly opened Louvre Abu Dhabi.
European and Middle Eastern buyers spent 52% more at Christies auctions in 2017 than the previous year, but that includes Leonardo da Vincis Salvator Mundi, which is uncommonly expensive as it is one of only 20 remaining pieces of art thought to be by da Vinci.
