D-Xylose, Cas no. 58-86-6, commonly called wood sugar, is a natural 5-carbon sugar (pentose) obtained from the xylan-rich portion of hemicellulose, present in plant cell walls and fiber.

It is a sugar initially isolated from wood, available as White crystalline powder. D-Xylose is an important nutrient, mainly used as diabetic sweetener. Its also an important materials in manufacturing of Xylitol.
