A crisis may be defined as an event or series of events that create a loss or a threat of a loss. Major changes in life are often brought about when a crisis occurs. These events can be joyous occasions such as marriage or the birth of a child,or disastrous such as the death of a loved one, and can have the effect of disrupting adjustments. The crisis may be relatively minor and its effect may hardly be noticed. A major crisis can effect, not only an individual, but also his family, his community, and his country as occurred with Hurricane Katrina. There is usually some sense of loss with all of the accompanying emotions that a loss entails. Emotions such as anger, grief, guilt, depression and anxiety to name a few can overwhelm and immobilize us, creating confusion, and making decision-making difficult, often leading a person to grab at straws so to speak in an effort to cope. A crisis may create problems for an individual in functioning in significant life roles. Although temporary, in a state of crisis adjustments are broken down and one's normal means of coping with stress may be inadequate or unavailable. In this situation people need all the information and support they can get. It is often possible to develop new and more functional ways of coping with stress. Given these things, they can make new adjustments and get on with their life. It is important to understand that any change, no matter how devastating, is accompanied by an opportunity to improve one"s adjustments and experience personal growth in their life.

I have spent the greater part of my adult life as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Typically, people have a difficult time making needed changes in their life until they are forced to do so, It has been somewhat of a passion with me to enable people in crisis to recognize their opportunity for positive change in their life and to support them in their process of readjustment.

As an individual who has experienced failure in business, I know many of the frustrations that business men and women go through in trying to succeed. In order to succeed, a major investment of time and money is most often necessary and frequently other responsibilities may be short changed or put on the back burner. Relationships can be disrupted and all sorts of other problems can occur.

We all experience crisis in life. Perhaps participation in this group is relevant to you needs. Or perhaps you may have information or resources that can be of benefit to others. In any event, you are welcome to participate as a member or as a visitor.
