Ye Are All Losers

Ye Are All Losers (Myself included) Part 1

I’ve been semi-active on Linkedin for less than a year and so far I haven’t seen any tangible results. I joined a few dozen groups, posted a few links, and tried to make some connections. I read a lot of the articles that are posted and I have noticed a pattern. There is a lot of petty bickering among the respondents. Two days ago, in one of the spiritual enlightenment groups I joined, a member wrote a rude comment about another member’s post. Basically he said, “Nobody wants to read this long post because it’s not relevant to most people.” In the same comment, he proceeds to write an even longer story about his own “spiritual journey.”  I viewed that as an immature attempt to gain attention for himself. After reading his story, I thought to myself, “Wow, this guy is a real loser! He must have not made much out of his life.”

This guy appeared to be in his mid fifties. I even had to mention this discussion to my wife. I jokingly said, “It must really suck to be old and have nothing to show for it.” The next day, I was still thinking about the petty arguments on this website and another Linkedin member came to mind. This young lady and I belong to several of the same groups. Almost every day, she makes slick little comments that are usually incoherent. She seems frustrated and angry. Even worse, it seems most people ignore her comments which make her marginalized, more frustrated and angrier. I can’t help but think, “Poor girl, it must suck to complain so much and no one cares. You are a loser with a capital L!”

Now, I shall present the biggest loser. There is a man on Linkedin who logs in every day, reads posts, makes comments, and even writes articles on Linkedin Pulse. He has provided constructive criticism, and tried to create alliances with like minded people. None of these efforts have yielded any tangible results. He is able to see what everyone else is doing wrong and things they could do to change course. The worst thing about this guy; he knows what he should do in order to change his own course, but is too much of a loser to follow his own advice.

Obviously, the biggest loser I am referring to is I. Even though I don’t lash out in online forums, I privately am just as frustrated and angry as those people I mentioned earlier. The young lady says things I would love to say, but I don’t have the courage to ruffle any feathers. The guy in his mid 50’s is a future version of me. When I was in my early 20’s, I used to think people in their late 30’s were so old and irrelevant. I guess it’s somewhat of a self fulfilling prophesy that I am writing this particular article at age 39.

Stay tuned for part 2.

I deleted my account at LinkedIn long ago and that is not something I do lightly. I found it to be nothihng but an energy sink (worse than a heat sink in electronics) and so far I have not missed it one bit. APSense is a much better use of my time, even with all it's problems.

Just little things I deal with, like when I delete notices they come back and I need to delete them every day to keep it from flooding. Then of course the spammer problems everyone has, but nothing serious.
