X-24 Hot irons and RAZR X Irons review

by Lucia Jonson writer

The Callaway X-24 Hot irons are the longest and most accurate irons in the history of the company's hugely successful X-Series range, with the X-24 Hot delivering faster ball speeds across the clubface for maximum distance throughout the bag.

Callaway designers have introduced the new stealth PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) finish to the X-24 Hot to reduce glare and an impressive, darker look. The X-24 Hot irons also feature Callaway’s VFT Face Technology, a 360-degree undercut channel and a precise centre of gravity to create a large and performance driven hitting area for golfers of all abilities.

Developed for golfers who are looking for a distance gain through the entire set, the X-24 Hot irons also utilize Callaway’s core technologies including S2H2, Precision Notch Weighting and Modified Tru-Bore. The X-24 Hot is a technologically advanced iron that has resulted in a longer and more accurate set than any of its predecessors.

The Callaway X-24 Hot iron is the worthy successor to the X-22 iron. As you would expect the X-24 Hot continues the same design styling as the X-22s with the deep undercut cavity, standard offset and medium-thick top line on the face. Callaway have branded this a 'Hot' version as they claim to have made the face a little thinner to transfer more club head speed to the ball and it certainly delivers. The forgiveness is very good and the X-24 Hot irons are a joy to hit, giving solid, great feeling shots right across the face. The Callaway graphite shaft felt very stable and these irons will suit everyone from high single figures upwards.

New for 2012, it comes for the Callaway RAZR XF Irons, the Callaway RAZR X HL Irons. The Callaway RAZR X Irons are designed to maximize one specific performance benefit - Distance, Forgiveness or Feel - while sacrificing all other critical areas needed to hit more greens. Breakthrough RAZR Technology will lead the industry into the next generation of iron design by delivering the distance and forgiveness of a wide sole iron while retaining the playability and turf interaction advantages of a thin sole iron.

They are more forgiving which translates to more consistency and they have more length which I was not expecting. I've gained almost one club in length. One of my friends also bought this set recently and said he had the same experience. I now use my 4 iron more than ever as opposed to my less accurate 5 wood. However, I now have a 15 yard gap between my new gap wedge and my old sand wedge. I did notice that the Razr X irons are 1 to 2 degrees less loft than my old X-20's, but I have no problems in getting height on my shots, thanks to the improved weighting on the back of the clubs.
