Writer's block

by Oliver Maurice Essay Writing
Part of why Writer's Block sounds so dreadful and insurmountable is the fact that nobody ever takes it apart. People lump several different types of creative problems into one broad category. In fact, there's no such thing as "Writer's Block," and treating a broad range of creative slowdowns as a single ailment just creates something monolithic and huge. Each type of creative slowdown has a different cause — and thus, a different solution.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the terrifying mystique of Writer's Block, it's better to take it apart and understand it — and then conquer it. Here are 10 types of Writer's Block and how to overcome each type.

Most writers will have trouble with writer's block at some point in their lives. The possible reasons for writer's block are myriad: fear, anxiety, a life change, the end of a project, the beginning of a project... almost anything, it seems, can cause that debilitating feeling of fear and frustration. Fortunately, there are as many ways to deal with writer's block as there are causes. The items below are only suggestions, but trying something new is the first step toward writing again.

There are, research suggests, many explanations for the behaviour of not writing, including fear of others’ judgments or excessive self-criticism. (Also: do you even want to write? Or are you subliminally trying to please someone else, such as a parent?) Whatever your reason, diagnosing yourself as having writer’s block, rather than just not currently writing, will make matters worse. “Naming something gives it object power,” Silvia has said. “People can overthink themselves into deep dark corners, and writer’s block is a good example.”
