Would You Like to Purchase Prescription Drugs Online Safely and Legally?

by Richard Smith Health Fitness Specialist

“About 46 percent of the U.S. population used one or more prescription drugs in the past 30 days, according to a survey from the National Center for Health Statistics. With almost half the U.S. population taking drugs, it may be surprising that this figure is a slight improvement from 10 years prior.”

Many of us want the option to buy our prescription drugs from online drug stores because the practice seems to be convenient and saving money. But is buying drugs from an online pharmacy legal and safe? Yes, if you understand and follow some guidelines about the potential pitfalls. The key is to find a legitimate, secure, and sensitive online drug origins, such as convenience and price.

The prescription drugs that Americans use vary by age group. Among the youngest cohort, the medicine used to treat asthma was most common. Stimulants for treating attention deficit disorder were most common among adolescents aged 12 to 19 years with about one in 16 adolescents with a prescription.

Older adults aged 60 and over had the highest proportion for prescription drug use at 85 percent. Nearly half of the older population used prescription drugs to combat high cholesterol, while more than one in five used anti-diabetic medicines.

Is buying prescription drugs online legal?

Indeed, as long as certain rules are followed, it can be legitimate. If buying your prescription drug online depends on different factors: the location, the location of the International pharmacy, and whether a prescription is needed or not. Make yourself familiar with the requirements to be fulfilled in order to make a legal Internet purchase of drugs.

While ordering medications you must check,

1.      Is the online pharmacy asking for a valid prescription?

2.      Whether the pharmacy is licensed in its own parent country?

3.      Do they have the facility for you to talk to the pharmacists?

Is it safe to buy prescription drugs online?

It can be safe if you choose the right online pharmacy. You’re going to want to avoid the hundreds (maybe thousands) of fake websites pretending to be online pharmacies, but just taking your money. They can be expensive and dangerous. If you understand why most pharmacies online are not safe or legal, then you will understand better how to make a wise choice.

The problems that you may face while ordering online supply are:

1.      Prescription drugs may be outdated.

2.      The liquid prescriptions may be diluted with water.

3.      The prescription drug inside may be mislabeled, harmful, or an incorrect drug.

4.      Prescription drugs may be counterfeit.

5.      The prescription drugs may have been store inappropriately.

Don’t get confused between online pharmacy and pharmacy online.

There is a distinction between using the internet to shop from a retail pharmacy versus ordering from an online-only pharmacy. Local drug stores have websites; you can use one to fill a prescription or renew one. There should be no problem buying drugs from their websites unless you have concerns about the credibility of your local pharmacy.

Network and mail-order retailers also partner with health insurance companies to handle broader prescription orders to hold customer’s prices down.  Buying from them is as safe as using your local pharmacy through your insurer. When you find it difficult to get to your local pharmacy, these prescriptions can function very well. They’re just perfect if you like the ease of renewing online or if you want to buy a product you’re using on a regular basis for many months.

Next, decide whether pricing is a major issue for you. If you have coverage, you may be able to use the insurance to purchase your drugs online, but the costs are likely to be almost the same at every International pharmacy as the price is a co-payment calculated by the form and rate pricing of your provider.

If you are covered by insurance:

1.      Check first with the insurance or payer. See if you can use a preferred mail-order pharmacy. If you are unable to access the information on the website of your insurance company or payer, contact your customer service number and inquire.

2.      If you don’t like the thought of using the mail order service of your insurer or if they don’t have one to suggest, then choose your favorite local pharmacy’s page, preferably the one where you are already taking medications. Very possibly they will have the ability to order drugs online.

If you are not covered by insurance:

1.      Start by comparing drug prices on one of the websites that will help you make the connection.

2.      Double search the legal and safe online pharmacy you want to use. NABP (National Association of Medication Boards) operates a website called VIPPS (Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites). Every medication on that site has been reviewed to verify that it is safe and legal to use.

3.      You can also check the Canadian International Pharmacy Association or Pharmacy Checker for the list of safe online pharmacies and compare the prices of prescription drugs.
