by Daisy Wilkinson Travel Guides

Bali has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia today and is visited by plenty of tourists from different corners of the world every year. The beautiful natural landscapes of this Indonesian island are a visual delight while its rich cultural heritage provides a wide range of offerings for the tourists to explore. Some of the common sights that you'll witness while getting around on the island are the old temples, traditional 'gamelan' music being played at several spots, and roadside stalls where a few mouth-watering treats from the local cuisine are offered. During your holiday spent on this mesmerising Indonesian island, you'll also get the chance to visit some of its popular attractions.

Among the popular attractions you'll get to explore during your Bali holidays is an old Hindu temple called 'Pura Tanah Lot'. It is one of the most iconic temples on the island owing to its unique seaside setting. The temple has been built on a rocky islet, which has waves of the sea dashing against it. Pura Tanah Lot is also among the most sacred of all the sea temples. Tourists from Kuta, Sanur, and Legian make their journey through the lanes lined with souvenir sellers every evening to visit this temple.

Mount Batur is yet another popular attraction worth exploring while holidaying on the Indonesian island. Many of its visitors trek up to its summit every day before dawn to witness the morning sun rise above the mist-covered mountains. This mountain is located in the central highlands of Bali and is a short drive from Ubud. You'll find the hike relatively easy in the presence of well-marked trails and an experienced guide. Some of the most awe-inspiring views can be enjoyed from the summit of this mountain on a clear day. Make sure that you have good-quality hiking shoes.

Your holiday on this island would also allow you to explore 'Pura Luhur Uluwatu' or the Uluwatu Temple. Owing to its fabulous cliff-top setting, it has gained immense popularity among tourists. The temple is located on the Bukit Peninsula and offers the best views if visited during the sunset. According to the archaeologists, the origin of this temple can be traced back to the 10th century. It is believed that this temple protects the island from evil spirits of the sea. The temple only allows Hindu worshippers. Visitors from other faiths can admire the temple from outside and watch some brilliant Kecak dance performances that are held every day.

One of the places in Bali you must never miss during your holiday is the Sacred Monkey Forest. It can be reached easily from the town centre of Ubud and is a must-see for photographers and animal lovers. You'll be amused upon watching the grey long-tailed macaques roaming around freely in this forest. The paved pathways in this forest would lead you to through the banyan and nutmeg trees and also give you the chance to visit the ancient temples. You'll also be amazed by the interaction between animals and humans upon visiting this forest.
