What is Vocational Education?

Vocational education refers to a system of study in which an individual is prepared for the kind of jobs that are based on manual or practical activities. It is traditionally non-academic in nature and is totally related to a specific trade, occupation or vocation. Until the end of 20th century, vocational education was associated with activities of lower social classes. But with the economic development worldwide, the labor market became more specialized and demand for higher skill levels for both public and private sectors started increasing rapidly. This has lead to the further development of vocational education in India.
