Why smart cities should adopt LED lighting solutions

by Natasha Roy Sales Advisor

Smart cities are the thing to watch out for in the near future. The government is putting a lot of their resources into creating cities that are technologically advanced and that provide abundant opportunities and a high lifestyle to its citizens. These cities are scattered all over the country and the work to make them smart is already well underway.

Street lights are a big part of our lives. They’re essential for road safety and provide ambient lighting for those of us who enjoy a nocturnal life. Roadways lighting solutions are a big part of creating smart cities. For these cities to be well connected and high functioning they need to have an outdoor lighting solution that is sustainable yet efficient.

We often ignore how much we rely on outdoor lighting in our day-to-day lives, and the fact that they are paid for by our tax money. Like everything else, these are also powered by electricity and like we all know electricity is one source of energy that needs to conserved. Smart lighting is the best lighting solution for smart cities. LED street lights are a great way to meet all the lighting needs of these cities without punching a hole in the tax payer’s pockets.

LED lighting is cheaper than your normal lighting, it is also more effective. The cost of roadways lighting solutions forms a significant chunk of our national budget. Switching to LED street lights isn’t just environmentally friendly but also much more cost effective. An LED lightbulb will also give out more light and cover more area than a regular light bulb. This will make streets safer and roadways better. Road safety is a big issue in our country and we must do all we can to ensure that our streets are safe for one and all. They softer than normal lights and their environmental consequences are also less harrowing, since they last longer they generate less waste.

The world is slowly but steadily adopting LED technology for their lighting needs. A survey suggests that out of the 140 million street lights that were installed worldwide last year, about 19 million were LED lights. These lights will aid in reducing light pollution and also reduce energy consumption of street lights. LED light may not eradicate all the problems that our environment faces every day because of our needs, but they are taking us a step closer to being a bit friendlier towards our earth.
