Why Folk Music Means Money For India

by Richa Jha Asistent Manager

The Indian music industry, in all its glory and glamour has unfortunately side-lined the Folk Music culture. Folk Music refers to the traditional compositions, sung by common people (without a high-tech recording studio). People usually learn these songs from their ancestors and pass it to their progeny. This process is then carried forward for generations.

Just like Hindi songs or Bollywood songs, Folk music is a reflection of India's multi-culture and diverse nature. However, today these great melodies are on the verge of extinction and needs to be encouraged. The presence of online music sites and mobile apps along with urbanization of cities is hurting the traditional compositions.

Here are some of the reasons why folk music means money for India:

Costs Nothing -

India is filled with artists and performers in every village. Some of them have incredible voice and tell incredible folklores through their melodies. It practically costs nothing to find these artists and record their tracks. One never know what one might discover. An archive of mp3 free music recordings can thus be collected from states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, etc., thereby including and promoting grassroots participation.

Grow Tourism -

There are so many people in who make their living by producing musical instruments. Digitisation has hurt them a lot. The preservation and propagation of folk songs can help with tourism. These folk artists should be featured on music store online and promoted on social networking websites. Word of mouth can also help attract tourists to their villages which are a living-breathing museum of talented people.

Important for Indian Classical Music's Survival -

There is little doubt that with high-budget backing the Hollywood songs, English songs, etc.have not only taken the stage away from regional Indian tunes but has reduced the Indian classical scenario to the margins. Giving boost to folk songs could trigger a reaction that might help Indian classical singers. These authentic tracks can add new excitement for the listeners as well. Also adding revenue from royalties for the online stores.

Conclusion:

In the end, it can be said that in the world latest music songs, folk music is a timeless genre. It denotes the expressions of the common masses. They have to be seen as created masterpieces instead of composed mp3 tracks which mean money for India and its economy.

For the new India, these melodic, delicate and enchanting tunes can help create a common way of thinking, shape our morals, values, and instil a sense of national pride.
