Why Do People Cough When They Vape?

by Andrew M. Vape Blogger

New vapers may cough when they vape but only a few experiences this. While many people tend to blame their vape juice supplies, there is much more involved. The main reason is the vaping technique. But there is more.

Coughing is a side effect. It can lessen the experience and prevent vaping again. Those who feel a slight irritation on the back of the throat every time they inhale can try a few things. Also, they must know the in and out of the procedure.

The Process of Vaping

The device used to vape is called an e-cigarette, vape pen, or vaporizer. It enables inhaling nicotine as vapor, unlike a conventional cigarette that burns into 50 carcinogens and 4000 chemicals. Vapers avoid consuming carbon monoxide or tar, which are harmful to the body.

An e-juice contains different nicotine strengths, like 0.3%, 0.6%, 1.1%, 1.4%, 1.5%, 1.8%, and 2.0%. Additionally, it contains flavorings, VG, and PG. The device heats the liquid to create smoke-like vapor.

What Causes Coughing?

To cough when vaping is a side effect that involves a prickly, irritating cough when the user inhales the produced vapor. It leads to irritated lungs and a sore throat. Often, some get used to this temporary problem, while others cannot. Here is what may cause this problem.

Poor Quality E-Liquid

Ensure premium vape juice supplies whenever you purchase. Local manufacturers offer better quality than the products available at gas stations. The latter is usually China-manufactured products, so a buyer should carefully check the information before buying. Premium juices mention all the critical information on the package.

US-made e-juices usually contain pharmaceutical-grade ingredients that assure quality and safety.

High Nicotine Strength or Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol or PG provides the throat hit smokers turned vapers seek. Although it isn’t usually the problem, using a sub-ohm kit or big vaporizer to vape higher levels of PG can cause coughing.

The same goes for nicotine. Higher nicotine strength and larger devices can cause throat irritation and coughing. So, people using large devices should consume e-juices with low nicotine and PG content.

Tar Detoxification

Vapers who recently quit smoking are more likely to experience coughing. It results from the transition from smoking to vaping. Smokers form a tar lining inside the lungs. When the user stops smoking, the lungs clear themselves by coughing up the tar. The feeling may not be pleasant, but it is for good.

So, ensure buying vape juice supplies from reliable sources to reduce the chances of coughing. Ex-smokers need not worry, as coughing out tar is a process of detoxification.
