Why coaching is necessary for ias preparation?

by Coach Anu entreprenure

I'll share my personal experience with you. I started preparing for the IAS exam in February 2015 when I was still in college and was busy with studies. I gave my first prelims in May 2016. On the basis of self-study. I also assumed that self-study is enough for cracking the exam.

IAS the Indian Administrative Service exam is considered one of the toughest competitive examinations which are conducted by the UPSC for recruiting officers for all Indian administrative civil services.

In 2016 I graduated. I got an offer of a decent job so I decided to join the job. I joined my office on July 15th. then I was studying and working at the same time. But it is not possible to manage all things at the same time. So,  I quit my job in October. Then I started my study for one month, Then, I gave it again pre. I cleared my exam successfully. You just need to be clear in your basics and must give lots of writing practice and mock tests. But a good coaching institute should be able to provide guidance and knowledge about syllabus and exams.

If you are not getting relevant and latest strategies and guidance from a coaching institute, even after spending thousands and lakhs of rupees, then there is no meaning in attending coaching classes.

important tips that might help you in your self-study:

  1. Understand the syllabus: first, you should understand the syllabus and It is important to understand the syllabus of UPSC Civil Services what will be asked in the exam. And also having deep knowledge of exam patterns.

  2. Check previous year's papers: The previous year's question papers give a great idea about upcoming exams and also immense help in the preparation process. It does not only help to understand the type of questions but they are also a great way to revise

  3. Revise: Completing the all syllabus and topics before the exam is not enough. Revision is also a very important asset to good preparation.  It is important to revise multiple times before the exam.

  4. Time Table: Make a time-table for yourself to keep self-discipline. The most important factor in timetables is Study hours. You don't need to study for 24 hours and all days. You just follow your time table.  And it should be broken into chunks of 2-4 hours with breaks in between.

  5. Self-discipline: self-discipline is the most important aspect of exams. You must follow your time table. And should study 6-8 hours per day. Self-discipline is necessary to stick to the timetable.

Things you get from coaching

Yes, you are capable of doing self-study but you don't get these things through self-study so coaching is also important to prepare for the IAS exam.

  1. Introduction to the concepts, information about relevant topics (you can also get it through previous year papers and syllabus)

  2. Guidance by experienced teachers

  3. Group discussion with students who are also doing preparation for the IAS exam.

  4. Doubt solving session for clear doubt in any topics.

  5. The study material is consolidated current affairs, topper notes, class notes.

  6. Test series for prelims and mains.

  7. Counseling from experts.
