Why are companies failing in big data projects? What can be done?

by Nxtra Data Cloud Computing Service Providers in Chennai
India has come a long way, in terms of infrastructural development. And with the growth of our digital era, companies are moving towards becoming fully data-driven. With this, gathering insights have become more tedious and complicated for companies. Furthermore, the ever-increasing number of internet users and spurt of applications have brought in more challenges. With the integration of cloud and analytics technologies, businesses are able to harvest insights from data to an extent. But so far we’ve witnessed many failures in data projects, and this failure is projected to be more in the years to come.

Why are companies failing to link data assets to strategic value? Let us briefly look at the reasons and some plausible solutions.

LACK OF EXPERTISE
In the initial stages of big data, big corporations built infrastructure from the scratch to tackle issues. In the excitement of the success of these companies, many other enterprises have resorted to using open source software framework, such as Hadoop to scoop the benefits of big data. These enterprises have hence invested much on such open source frameworks to produce many results. But most of these companies lack the expertise and skills to deploy effective technologies. Most of the big data projects fail because, after using many resources to set up, they deploy rigid frameworks which are not flexible during flight.
LACK OF COHESION
Many enterprises fail in bringing business expertise, IT and data science together as one body. Without this, there is the disconnect between the company needs and technology strategy. The business experts have deep knowledge of the issues and the challenges that the business has to tackle. Having this knowledge will enable the IT experts to architect the appropriate infrastructure in order to execute the solution strategy. Along with this, expertise in data science will enable the company to analyze and harvest insights more effectively.

In this regard, the trend in the Indian scenario has been in companies migrating from open source frameworks to cloud and colocation hosting services based technologies. All the more, dedicated server hosting in Chennai, Bangalore and other metros of the country are providing more attractive solutions to various business requirements and objectives. Being more cost-efficient and quicker to start off, the migration to these technologies are proving to be beneficial for many companies. Furthermore, companies do not need to spend an exorbitant amount of capital in building infrastructure.

Other major issues concerning open source framework, such as Hadoop are that these projects fail because they focus too much on the technology and less on the line of business perspective. Also, the initial investment on such projects is very high and the turn- around time is very long.

But the core of big data success is in understanding the real problems and objectives of the business. Without knowing this, no matter how competent your human resources may be, it will not deliver the results you seek.
