who is Adiyogi?

The introduction of Adiyogi by SADGURU

“When we say “Shiva,” there are two fundamental aspects that we are referring to. The word “Shiva” literally means “that which is not.” On another level, when we say “Shiva,” we are referring to a certain yogi, the Adiyogi or the first yogi, and also the Adi Guru, the first Guru, who is the basis of what we know as the yogic science today.

In the yogic culture, Shiva is not seen as a God. He was a being who walked this land and lived in the Himalayan region. As the very source of the yogic traditions, his contribution to the making of human consciousness is too phenomenal to be ignored. This predates all religions.

Over 15,000 years ago, Adiyogi appeared in the upper regions of the Himalayas. No one knew where he came from or what his origins were. He just came and went into intense ecstatic dance upon the mountains.

People saw that he was experiencing something that nobody had known before, something that they were unable to fathom. So they gathered around him wanting to know what it was. But no one had the courage to go near him because he was so intense, like a blazing flame of fire. So they waited, hoping something would happen. Some people waited for months and left and Only seven hardcore seekers stuck on. These seven were insistent that they must learn from him, but Shiva ignored them. They pleaded and begged him, “Please, we want to know what you know.”

At last, after 84 years of intense sadhana, he decided to become a Guru. On a full moon day which is known as Guru Pournami because the Adiyogi transformed himself into the Adi Guru – the first Guru was born on that day. He took the seven disciples to Kantisarovar and started a systematic exposition of yoga in a scientific manner. He began propounding the whole mechanics of life to these seven people, not intellectually as a philosophy, but experientially. He explored every nut and bolt of creation with them. He brought forth yoga as a technology with which every human being can evolve himself.

The transmission went on for a long period of time. After many years, when it was complete and had produced seven fully enlightened beings, who are today celebrated as the Sapta Rishis, Adiyogi sent each one of them to different parts of the world. One went to Central Asia. Another went to North Africa and the Middle East, where certain schools exist even today. Another went to South America, and that is one culture that imbibed it in a deep way and made something big out of it. One went to East Asia.

One stayed right there with Adiyogi. Another one came to the lower regions of the Himalayas and started what is known as Kashmiri Shaivism. Another one went south into the Indian Peninsula. This one is very important for us because he is Agastya Muni. Of the seven Sapta Rishis, Agastya Muni has been the most effective in terms of bringing the spiritual process into practical life, not as a teaching, philosophy or practice, but as life itself. It is the benefit of what he did that the Indian people are still enjoying because he produced hundreds of yogis who were like fireballs.” and it goes on.”-                                                                                                  sadguru

To begin with, it would appear that Sadhguru has blended two unique stories and made them into one story. I don't imply that Sadhguru would have deliberately done that. Notwithstanding whether somebody is illuminated or not, human memory has its confinements. Sadhguru most likely heard these accounts quite a while prior and because of memory blunders, he may have made the two stories into one, which describes something that never occurred. I don't fault Sadhguru, however the visually impaired supporters who basically take whatever Sadhguru says as of right.

I think it is critical to make a couple of things understood. Let me initially examine who this Shiva is and a story from folklore that discussions about Dakshinamurthy. At that point, I will discuss the genuine Adi yogi, who started 8 sages and sent them to various pieces of the world.

Who is Shiva?

To start with, the word 'Shiva' doesn't imply 'what isn't', as said by Sadhguru. I have no clue how he concocted such importance. The word 'Shiva' signifies 'promising', which has consistently been utilized as a descriptor in Vedas. The word has been utilized for some divinities, not simply Rudra, the soonest type of Lord Shiva that we know today. It was only a word used to respect somebody. Gradually, the word 'Shiva' got related to the Vedic god Rudra.

Second, folklore isn't history. The narratives in folklore may have been made for different reasons: to pass on profound spiritualist lessons as a story, to help individuals to create dedication for an exemplified type of a definitive truth as a guide towards self-acknowledgment, to engage individuals and so forth. A puranic story consistently has different conflicting adaptations, every one of them made by individuals to extol their own preferred individual God.

Sadhguru has ordinarily demonstrated that this Adiyogi is equivalent to Dakshinamoorthy. Yet, the account of Dakshinamoorthy and the tale of the Adiyogi who sent 8 rishis to various pieces of the world are two totally various stories.

Let me portray a puranic story. At the point when Lord Brahma was doing his work of creation, he made numerous children from various pieces of his body. Four of his children named Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanandana, and Sanatkumara were conceived from the psyche of Brahma. These four individuals became Brahmacharis against the desire of their dad. It is likewise said that Brahma turned out to be irate, therefore, and severely Rudra, the most punctual type of Shiva was conceived.

In any case, in Shaivite conventions, it is said that these four individuals moved toward Shiva who at that point accepted the type of Dakshinamoorthy to educate them. He trained them about Self-acknowledgment utilizing jaw mudra that emblematically shows how an individual understands a definitive truth. That was all his instructing! As indicated by the story, he just showed the pith of the considerable number of sacred texts by a little signal. Note this applies to all conventions, not simply Yoga. A large portion of the Indian ways of thinking like Advaita, Yoga, and Samkhya have a similar pith despite the fact that they utilize various phrasings.

There are various stories related to these four kumaras. Some of them are opposing. Every Purana has its own rendition. Along these lines, it is certain that Dakshinamoorthy is an unadulterated structure made for commitment and sadhana, not a verifiable being who strolled on the earth. Furthermore, Dakshninamoorthy was not appeared as showing conventional Yoga by any stretch of the imagination. He is unmistakably not the Adiyogi of the yogic convention. In any case, this isn't to prevent the noteworthiness from securing Dakshinamoorthy in any case. He is an extraordinary emblematic portrayal of illumination.

Who is the genuine Adiyogi?

During 200 BC or 300 BC, an extraordinary yogi called Nandhi Natha lived in mount Kailash. He was a genuine person who strolled this planet and was the master of the incomparable Patanjali. He started 8 devotees (Sanatkumar, Sankar, Sanadanar, Sananthanar, Shivayogamuni, Patanjali, Vyaghrapada, and Tirumular) and sent them to different pieces of the world including focal Asia to spread Advaita Shaivism. The entire Yogic custom returns to Patanjali whose Guru was Nandi Natha. Nandi Natha additionally formed a sonnet with 26 refrains called Nandikeshvara Kashika.

Indeed, even today, the Nandhi Natha yogic custom views Nandi Natha as the Adiyogi. A school of this heredity called Adi Natha regards Shiva as the principal yogi, yet that was only a title given to Nandinatha since Shiva signifies 'favorable'.

Tirumular, an outstanding Tamil holy person and the pupil of Nandhinatha was really the one sent by Adi yogi to south India to spread this school (not Agasthiya). Shiva sending sage Agasthiya to South India to adjust the earth was simply one more puranic story and even that story doesn't state that he was sent to south India to show Yoga, as Sadhguru narrates. (Again, this isn't to prevent the hugeness from securing Agasthiya; He was an incredible Siddha who made an extraordinary commitment to the world).

Vigyan Bhairav Tantra – 112 methods for Yoga

Sadhguru additionally says that the Adiyogi statue is 112 feet high and this is to speak to the 112 strategies given by Lord Shiva. These 112 strategies are from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra, which is professed to be a piece of antiquated Kashmir Shaivaite content called Rudrayamala. It was made by an obscure creator at some point around the eighth century AD as a type of fanciful discussion among Shiva and Shakthi.

In this way, this Vigyan Bhairav Tantra is not the slightest bit identified with the Adiyogi Nandhi Natha or a recorded man called Shiva. The entire content of Vigyan Bhairav Tantra was really promoted by Osho everywhere throughout the world. Vigyan Bhairav Tantra is an uncommon book which was meant English by Paul Reps dependent on the critique given by Swami Lakshman Joo Raina, a self-acknowledged spiritualist of Kashmir Shaivism. The interpretation of Paul Reps was utilized by Osho to give his very own analyses.

The credit of advancing Vigyan Bhairav Tantra goes to these three individuals: Lakshman Joo, Paul Reps and Osho. Without them, relatively few individuals would have thought about this significant content.

As I previously referenced in my last article 'The Journey of a Seeker', Sadhguru utilizes such huge numbers of accounts, data, perspectives, and thoughts given by Osho yet never gives him credit. Osho was a genuine and bold man who made incredible overall mindfulness about self-acknowledgment. He was the principal man to promote the way that there is nothing incorrectly for a self-acknowledged man to carry on with an ordinary existence with every one of the extravagances of the world. In the event that Osho didn't have the mental fortitude to possess 92 Rolls Royces and still case illumination, we wouldn't be tolerating Sadhguru owning a helicopter or playing golf. It is simpler to acknowledge Sadhguru now since we have just observed Osho like this. Osho did all the preparation however the poor man doesn't get the credit.

The Adiyogi statue looks lovely, there is no doubt. However, he didn't manufacture this statue to give acknowledgment for whoever the Adi yogi was. It is basically a statue of Lord Shiva that worked to draw in groups and travelers. On the off chance that Sadhguru is the sort of man who offers credit to individuals, at that point he would have offered credit to Nandhi Natha (the real Adi yogi) and Osho as of now.
