When this has nothing to do with that
by Cheryl Baumgartner(CITRMS) Independent Associate with LegalShield I suppose you could call this a rant. I prefer to think of it as a word to the wise. Many marketers are shooting themselves in the foot and I mean to point that out to them.I have seen more than one article posted here on APSense that has absolutely nothing to do with the product or service being promoted and yet the poster is using it for that purpose. I don't mean that they have posted an interesting article and used a signature link to promote their product. That is not an issue to me. It simply shows that the promoter has varied interests. I'm talking about taking a completely irrelevant article and using it as a vehicle to post completely unrelated hyperlinks.
Let me show you what I mean. Lets say that I am promoting a travel agency. It would make complete sense for me to post articles about tourist attractions and include links to my business. After all I am promoting travel. And I can use PLR articles for this.
I could also think outside of the box and post a medical article that deals with common ailments that a tourist might experience visiting another country. I could Post articles about wildlife in other countries since all of these things can be tied into the idea of visiting another country. All of these things make sense right? All of these things can give a different point of view and information that is relevant even if it is not commonly posted.
Now lets look at the 'shoot yourself in the foot' approach. I post a PLR article on diabetes and proceed to scatter hyperlinks to my travel agency throughout this article. It makes no sense does it? If you are going to use article marketing use your common sense also. Don't take an irrelevant article and scatter your promotional links through the text and think you are being clever. In fact the opposite is true, all you do is make yourself look rather silly.

Independent Associate with LegalShieldTrue Rob. However targeting also means making sure that your aim is true. If the article has nothing to do with what someone is promoting, then they shouldn't go adding irrelevant hyperlinks in the article. Dec 15th 2011 16:46 |

Better World PartisanCheryl, that's exactly what I am referring to also, just from the opposite point of view: if the promotion has nothing to do with the article, it is not targeting the readers. :-) Dec 16th 2011 06:44 |

Independent Associate with LegalShieldThat can be true but having an article about something that you don't promote and just signing it with your signature can also give people common ground to meet you on. A good way of building relationships with people who may not be interested in what you are promoting but they may become interested later after getting to know you or even know someone who is interested. "Networking is a contact Sport!Yes l have to agree with you on this issue Cheryl, l had one member copy and paste another comment almost word for word and then posted it on my article not far from the original article..I found hyper links that have no business being posted all over the place, why waste your time....But the sad part they think they are doing something clever......BUT ONLY WASTE THEIR TIME AND OUR!!! Independent Associate with LegalShieldExactly Paula! However this PLR garbage with nothing more than links to irrelevant sites is past annoying. At least the Timberland garbage would be in an article about footwear or the Jersey sellers opt to use articles about sports figures even if it is still randomly added links. I have to give them credit for being in the right church even if they are in the wrong pew! Dec 16th 2011 14:06 |

Independent Associate with LegalShieldOddly enough most of them That I see now are being posted by members from India. I'm not knocking all of the members from India because many of them are posting quality but that group using the shortcuts is way past annoying at this point. Dec 18th 2011 08:41 |

Service & Project ManagerI agree with everything said here; nice clear explanation, and I must admit to feeling like a rant whenever I come across articles such as those described here. The odd thing is the people that do this often are the first to scream that online marketing "doesn't work", is a waste of time" etc., etc.... What they have forgotten is the GIGO principle!! Social Media ConsultantVery well put Pplcheryl. There are a lot of people out there who think what they are doing is a clever way to market. Misleading people will only dampen one's image, but most of them don't even consider that. I've had people also leave comments on my posts, which were in no way related to what the post was all about. Thanks for putting this put; I hope they see and learn. Dec 22nd 2011 08:23 |
