What makes Rajasthan a viable location for solar energy production?

by Rays Power Manager

Rajasthan Government is committed to make Rajasthan state one of the front-running state contributing substantially to Indian economy. While other states have the vast, fertile lands yielding massive production of food crops, cash crops, this state faces the challenge of converting long stretches of arid, barren land into a promising revenue center. Thankfully, the state is blessed with ample of sunlight and scorching heat. With the temperature reaching somewhere near 50oC, the Solar Energy in Rajasthan is an idea worth banking upon. Some of the important factors that are worth contemplating over that make Rajasthan the biggest contender to become a leader in solar energy production are discussed here.

Ample exposure to Sunlight almost throughout the year

Except for few cloudy days, Rajasthan’s climate is characterized by unbearable heat and scathing sunlight. Produces can yield Solar Energy in Rajasthan by installing solar panels on those parts of the state where there is plenty of open space and abundance of heat available for the major part of the year. Both the photovoltaic solar panels and solar thermal panels are a hit in these areas. Also, it is easy to find spaces in rooftops of commercial establishments to set up a solar energy trapping system, which further can be used to stimulate the motor and produce power. Statistically speaking, this state has the potential of generating 142GW solar power.

Government initiatives

Government does realize the potential of Solar Energy in Rajasthan. They are looking upon the long stretches of inhabitable barren lands as trump card for becoming a leader in solar power generation. They have adopted fast track policy to enable speedier approval of solar power generation projects. Just two year back, the state government came with a bouquet of investor-friendly schemes to boost the confidence of potential investors in solar energy production projects. It had a vision of adding capacity of 25,000MW in the state, clearly showing how enthusiastic the state is about becoming self-dependent in power generation the solar way.

Amendment in Acts to promote Solar Power Projects

Landowners are being encouraged to devote their unused and idle spaces into sites for generating Solar Energy in Rajasthan. Rajasthan Tenancy Act & Rajasthan Land Revenue Act is modified to allow the land owners to set up the solar power plant on their land or put the land on lease to the companies to allow them to install solar power panels on it. Land investments are encouraged further by abolishing the need to convert the land for solar power projects.

All these factors are making Rajasthan a ripe location for expanding the solar power plants base in the country.
