What is Tissue Saving Lasik Treatment Plan? And Why Tissue Saving Treatment is recommended?

Lasik Laser Surgery is a two-step process, first creating a flap and the reshaping corneal surface to correct number. A lasik laser technology corrects nearsightedness by flattening the cornea; it corrects farsightedness by making the cornea steeper. And astigmatism can be corrected by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more symmetrical shape.

Tissue Saving (by 40 to 50 micron) in Flap Making Step by reducing the flap thickness.

The use of a tissue-saving algorithm for laser refractive surgery is an effective way to reduce ablation depth. The high-energy pulses of ultraviolet light penetrate only a tiny amount of the cornea and have the ability to remove as little as 0.25 microns of tissue at a time. (One micron is a thousandth of a millimeter.)

Currently available systems in market consume 12 micron to 18 micron to correct 1 dioptre of number which ideally consume to reshape or ablate the cornea inner layer called stroma. By using tissue saving treatment plan, the overall consumption of tissue to reshape cornea can be reduced by 20%. In some case optical zone can be reduced and 1 dioptre of number can be corrected with 9 micron of corneal tissue
