What is the Purpose of Polyester Film Capacitors?

by Crazzy Paul Digital Markting Professional
The capacitor is a type of item used in the production of many industrial devices, such as amplifiers, computers, air conditioners, televisions, radios etc. All these components can be find in almost all types of electronic circuits.

Application Areas of Film Capacitors & Uses:

  • Polyester film capacitors that use air as a dielectric material in them can be used for radio tuning circuits.

  • Capacitors using Mylar can be commonly found in timer circuits such as alarm clocks and glass and are often used as a dielectric material in capacitors that require high voltage applications.

  • Applications areas that require high frequency such as x-ray or MRI make use of ceramic capacitors in the process.

Polypropylene (PP) film capacitors are made from the petroleum substances that are key constituents of polyesters. They have multiple of uses across industries because of their innate properties and advantages. The industries that use them are electronics industry and the packaging industry.

Packaging industry happens to be the major user of these metalized films. Due to their multiple properties of the following:
  • Appearance
  • Strong oxygen barrier
  • Brilliant printing and sealing capabilities

They are also preferred in food products packaging. Mixed dielectric film capacitors are metalized under high vacuum condition in order to achieve certain desired properties like a metallic look, making it resistant to gases, and less diffusive to type of aroma or flavor. The other advantageous properties are that they can be shrunk with heat application, can be molded into different forms as per the need, are printable and capable of lamination and extrusion also.

A capacitor not work a battery and take only a fraction of seconds to complete a electric discharge. A battery on the other hand take few minutes to do so, because of this feature the capacitors are often used in the electronic flash of cameras. It allow you  click a picture and the flash come and goes off immediately. This is really a good example of capacitor releasing all its energy in a fraction of seconds. When the flash is not used or clicked, the battery discharges this energy when a picture is clicked using flash.
