What is QuickBooks Error H505 and How to Resolve it?

Intuit launches the QuickBooks desktop to provide the best solution for accounting to worldwide leaders in businesses. Its primary focus is on medium size firms, associations, and houses, and it offers various features like multi-user, track inventory, automated payment schedules, etc.

This is an excellent software but consists of some bugs, and one such bug is QuickBooks Error H505. It usually triggers when any user is trying to operate any data or file of the company on some other system & it doesn’t consist of proper setup, or else the system needs additional configuration or installation. Almost all the errors in the H series are related to problems in the hosting setting. Error H505 pops up because many users' systems are configured to function as servers.

What Triggers the Error H505 of QuickBooks

  • Wrong or improper settings of hosting configuration. 

  • Wrong settings of DNS

  • The firewall blocks the company file's outgoing &  incoming communications.

  • Unable to scan the folders and files of QuickBooks using the server's database.

  • Incorrect, missing or damaged.ND file. 

  •  It triggers, at times, the QuickBooks service “DBXX” isn’t active. 

  • When the QuickBooks software cannot track the system’s IP address.

Symptoms and Signs of triggering of the QuickBooks Error Code H505

  • When the programming window of QuickBooks gets crashed

  • If the user is unable to operate the working in multi-user. 

  • Periodically freezing and unresponsiveness of windows.

  • Repeatedly crashing of the Windows operating system 

  • The user is unable to operate the company file of QuickBooks, which are saved on the server

  • The QuickBooks prompts the Error H505 on the screen. 

Few Methods to Resolve QuickBooks Error H505

Solution 1: Make use of QuickBooks File Doctor

  • Install and Launch the file doctor of QuickBooks. 

  • Give it some time to solve the issue. This will automatically troubleshoot the multi-user and H series Errors. 

Solution 2: Check the Hosting and Services

  1. The first step is to check the services.

  • Ensure that the “QBCFmonitor” and “QuickBooksDBXX” services are in working condition:

  • Click the “Start” or “Windows” button.

  • Press the keys “Windows+R” to launch the Run box

  • Type “MSC” & click on Enter

  • Find “QuickBooksDBXX services” in the windows of services. 

  • This can be possible that it will not show the “QuickBooksDBXX” services:

  • Ensure that the server has DBSM of QuickBooks installed. 

  • Launch QuickBooks in case the user operates an entire program on the host. Finally, confirm that the service is enabled by checking it.

  • Verify if the service status and startup type are started by launching “QuickBooksDBXX.

  • Click on the tab “Recovery.”

  • Lastly, save changes.

  1. Check the hosting

  • Launch “QuickBooks Software” on every hosting system

  • Select “Utilities” from the file menu 

  • If it shows the option “Host multi-user operation,” this system cannot host a company’s file. 

  • Otherwise, choose the option “Stop hosting Multi-user Access” if it is visible. 

  • Select the option “File must be closed window” from the menu “Company.

  • Lastly, click on “Yes.”

Solution 3: Edit the server file

  • Press the keys “Windows+R” to launch the Run Box

  • Enter “cmd” and click on Enter to launch the window “Command prompt.”

  • Next, type the text “ipconfig/all” & press the enter key to execute the command. 

  • Lastly, note down somewhere “IP address and hostname.” This process must be done on each system providing multi-user.

Then edit the host file of the Windows.

  • Close the QuickBooks Software and go to the start tab. 

  • Then head to the “This PC” option and operate C:\Windows \ Syswow64\ Drivers\Etc.

  • Now locate the hidden folders and files if the user isn’t able to search for the folder of windows inside “This PC.”

  • Go to the “View tab” & select “Hidden items.” It will prompt the files that are hidden from the user. 

  • Choose to open the hidden files by right-clicking them and operating them using notepad. 

  • Then enter the computer name and IP address.

  • Lastly, save changes and try opening QuickBooks software in Multi-user again.

Solution 4: Modify the Location Settings of the QuickBooks Folder

  • Start by making a new folder inside the server system

  • After creating the folder, verify providing entrance permission to the file of the company

  • Copy & Paste the file “.qbw” into a new folder

  • Operate the file of the company in Multi-user to finish the procedure. 

Solution 5: Modify the Firewall to Allow the Expectation

  • Go to the Control panel by search in on the start tab

  • Choose the option “Firewall Settings.”

  • Select the option “Allow program,” in which there will be a pop-up of “Add program.”

  • The user needs to add their version of “QuickBooks 20XX” to the list of exceptions & save.

  • Start the system again to verify if the error has been resolved or not.
