What is Digital Marketing and How Does It Work?

by Mac Nac maccnacc

Digital marketing is the process of promoting products and services using digital technologies, such as social media, search engines, and display advertising.

The goal of digital marketing is to attract potential customers by using various forms of online media such as search engines or social networking sites. Digital marketers can also use more traditional media like print ads or TV commercials to promote their brands and products.

Digital marketing has much higher client retention rates and better conversion rates than traditional forms of marketing such as TV commercials or radio ads. Digital marketing also allows marketers to measure results more accurately and be more targeted in their spending, which is particularly important for businesses with a small budget. Here are different types of digital marketing activities.

1. Search engine optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's unpaid results—often referred to as "natural", "organic", or "earned" results.

The SEO process has three broad stages: research, strategy, and execution. Research includes defining the target market and its needs, identifying keywords to be targeted, and assessing competitors. Strategy covers content development, link building, social media engagement and other tactics meant to optimize content for search engines. Execution refers to optimizing on-page elements like meta tags, titles, headings, images etc., and off-page elements like links from other websites.

2. Search Engine Marketing

Search engine marketing is a type of internet advertising that uses targeted keywords on search engines to drive traffic to a web page. It is also called SEM.

SEM is generally less expensive than other types of advertising and can be more effective for some businesses. SEM may bring in new customers for businesses who have trouble getting customers through traditional means. .SEM may be most effective for businesses with a large online presence, since SEM is done through search engine results and advertisements.

3. Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is the use of social networks, social media, and other types of electronic communication to promote a product or service.

A social media marketer may create content for their company's blog or website, and use social networking platforms to promote their content. They may also choose to sponsor other people’s content in order to advertise their brand. A social media marketer might also try to increase awareness of the company by engaging in conversations with people about the company's products on various online forums.

4. Email Marketing

Email marketing is a marketing technique that uses email to send messages to customers, prospects, and other recipients.

Email marketing is the process of sending emails to a list of people who have given their permission, usually in exchange for some kind of benefit. It is used to promote products or services through email.

The recipient can be a current customer or someone who has expressed an interest in your product/service but has not yet purchased it. The message typically offers something of value (a free trial, discount, etc.) in return for the recipient's contact information so that you can continue to market to them via email in the future.
