What Does D-Link Router Lights Signify?

D-Link is one of the most popular brand when it comes to router. With a huge range of products taking care of user’s needs, it has become one of the most sought after product.  It is easy to configure D-Link Routers. The lights on the router indicate the problem faced by it. Here is the meaning of light indication on the router and common solution that can solve these problems:

Power Light

The Power light should be solid green after you connect the router to the power supply.

If there is no light that means that the power is not supplied with the router. Check that

·         The power wire is properly plugged in power socket and switched on.

·         The power cable is properly connected to the router.

·         Try to connect to a different power socket.

·         If the above steps don’t work, check whether the power cable is fine. If necessary, change it.

Internet Light

If the Internet light is solid green, the Internet connection is good. If the green light is blinking, it indicates the internet connection and wiring is fine.

If it displays strong amber or yellow color that the router is not able to access internet. There may be a need to restore Internet Settings. To restore it, follow these steps:

·         Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel.

·         Double Click on ‘Internet Options’

·         Click on the ‘Security’ tab and click the option to restore settings to default.

·         Make sure that nothing is selected in ‘LAN Settings.’ Click OK

·         Go to ‘advanced’ tab and click to restore settings to its default. Click OK.

If there is no light then there is no Internet access available. Make sure that:

·         Ethernet Cable is well connected to the router and modem

·         Both modem and router are on

·         Power is turned on to computer.

If still there is no light, you need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

WLAN Light (When wireless connection is used)

Green light indicates that the wireless interface is on and data are easily transferred by the router.

It might take up 1-2 minutes to completely start. If the WLAN light is still not on then there is some problem.

Make sure you have enabled wireless connection. To check follow these steps:

·         Type 192.168.0.1 into your Internet Explorer address bar.

·         If it asks for your username and password, type is appropriate box.

·         The default login username is Admin. Leave the password box blank.

·         Select Wireless Setting from Setup Page. Check if the ‘Enable Wireless box’ if ticked. If not, then click on the box.

·         Click on ‘Apply Settings’

LAN ports Light (When wired connection is used)

If you are connected to a wired connection, the LAN Port lights should be green. This means that the router is properly connected to a computer and transmitting data.

If there is no light displayed, then there might be some problems. Check the following to troubleshoot the problem:

·         Verify that the Ethernet wire is connected to a computer and router.

·         Make sure that the power is on for both router and computer.

·         Check if the Ethernet port is enabled.

·         Connecting LAN port 1 to LAN port 2 on the back of the router by the Ethernet cable.

·         The problem with Ethernet port can be caused due to dust or blockage. Clear this and again try to connect to router.

·         If it still does not connect, then there is a problem with your Ethernet port or cable.
