by Divash Jain Digital Marketing Strategist

As you probably already know, there are several different types of fundamental logo designs available out there in the market. While creating something new, most people usually take one of these elements and try to build their work upon it. So, in a sense, they are quite popular among the logo designers.

However, like everything, each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Yes, you have understood it correctly. Some of them can be perfect in a few aspects, while on the other aspects they will be a disaster.

So, here, we will be talking about some of the basic logo designs and point out their pros and cons. Let’s get started with it.

  1. The Typefaces

The term, Typeface, typically refers to a specific type of typography, which many designers tend to use on their works. The following are some pros and cons of this type of design.

Pros

The typefaces can add a touch of personality in the designs. It makes the logo look a lot more value-worthy and ingenious. You probably have seen the typefaces in the logos of rock or metal bands, which do look quite sleek and stylish. Many bands use the bolder fonts to represent their music properly to the audience.

However, if you are not really that into band culture, then you can refer to the logo of Google. It uses six different unique-looking letters with distinctive colors. Well, to be honest, it does come with a simplistic appearance. But, you can understand the company’s personality just by looking at it only once. This is exactly what a logo is all about.

Cons

The main con of the typefaces logos that they are quite overused in some cases. Many companies nowadays tend to use bolder fonts to make their brand name look more prominent. However, as it has been used so many times before, most people do not really show much interest in them.

Secondly, using or, rather, designing the typefaces in a proper manner is a difficult job. If you cannot use the words properly, then it might represent something, which you were not really trying to express through. So, if you want to make a good typeface-based logo, then you would have to be quite careful about the flicks and swishes.

  1. Color-based Logos

Color is actually a very important element in any logo. They can evoke new thoughts in the viewers and help them come up with something new every time they look at it. Nevertheless, it seems like they, too, have a few flaws in them. Let's check it out together.

Pros

Colors can have a major impact on a few types of businesses, such as travel organizations, holiday planners, and many more. If you own a travel-based company, then you can use a mixture of green and blue to design your logo. On the other hand, if you have a holiday planning website, then you can opt for the yellow color to invoke positivity in the viewers.

Cons

Many designers, mostly the first-timers, usually fail to use the colors in a proper manner. Hence, the works become a disaster, rather than being a masterpiece. Moreover, sometimes, using common colors can make your logo look almost like some other previously-made design. Hence, it becomes very difficult to come up with something new when you are using this particular base design.

  1. Stock Images

Well, believe it or not, but using stock images correctly can make a logo look amazingly unique and beautiful. So, do they actually have any cons? Well, yes, of course, they do. But, they have some pros too.

Pros

The best thing about the stock images is that they are absolutely free. You can find them almost anywhere in the market. So, you can download any of them and design your brand’s logo in your own way. Moreover, as you can download the stock images without paying anything, your overall expenditure behind the logo creation also reduces by quite a mile.

Cons

The only con of the stock images is that they are overused. So, while designing something, you may use a photo that has been employed for the same purpose a lot of times before. Therefore, the viewers will be able to find out the similarity almost instantly.

So, these are some of the advantages and disadvantages of a few of the popular types of logo designs.
