What Are The Main Caregivers Duties And Responsibilities

by Anna Rose Blogger

Caregiver's duties and responsibilities vary depending on the kind of program you work for. In a long-term care facility, for example, there are many different activities to be done, but they may only be limited to certain times each week. The caregiver has to be available at all hours and be willing to handle various tasks including bathing, dressing, feeding, shopping, and more. If the caregiver is working a home care service in Wyoming, he or she would be responsible for a variety of tasks including taking patient care, conducting therapy, and keeping the premises clean. The tasks would differ from center to center, but they will all involve having to stay on top of the patient's needs at all times. While the home care service in Wyoming may pay higher hourly rates, the pay is better than what you would receive at another job.

What Are The Main Caregivers Duties And Responsibilities

Another duty and responsibility that are vital in any home care situation are preparing meals for the elderly patient. It is not uncommon for caregivers to be trained in nutrition and how to prepare nutritious meals. Many times, the caregiver is also responsible for preparing the meals, but this does not mean that the person has no input in the matter. Often, the client will ask if he or she should add certain things to the meal or cut back on certain ingredients. This is extremely important, because many seniors suffer from nutritional deficiencies and need the vitamins and other nutrients that healthy eating provides.

Some of the other common home caregiver's duties and responsibilities include being a valid driver, being able to operate mobility scooters, operating medical equipment such as wheelchairs and aids, providing CPR, and many other duties that help people with disabilities and other handicap problems get the medical attention they need when they need it. Even though these caregivers may be paid an hourly wage, it doesn't mean that they have enough time to provide all of the services they need. Because most full-time caregivers are paid an hourly wage, it means that they make less money than many of the part-time nurses and doctors that are on the same job. Part-time nurses and doctors make anywhere from thirty to forty dollars an hour, and most full-time caregivers make much less than that.

In addition to their work responsibilities, many caregivers need assistance with personal matters as well. Because of their short attention span, seniors often forget important things or become frustrated by the things that they have to do. To be an effective caregiver, caring, compassionate individual needs to know how to take care of themselves so that they can better care for the individual that they are caring for at home instead of sending them to nursing homes.

Some of the most important aspects of the caregivers duties and responsibilities are those that involve the safety and security of the individual they are caring for. One of the most common injuries that occur for caregivers is a fall. If a caregiver's home has stairs, they must be able to get up and down the stairs without breaking a leg. Also, if there are any pets in the home, the pet owner needs to be aware of the routine and if the pet is getting too much attention and food, there could be a dangerous situation. Many of these tasks can be fulfilled by using fall protection accessories.

Other duties and responsibilities of a caregiver include preparing meals, cleaning and changing up the bed linens, helping with bathing the senior and making sure they are not too cold or hot. If the home has a fireplace, the caregiver must be familiar with how to light a fire, where it is located and how to extinguish it safely. The elderly may require help with some of these tasks as well. By using fall risk prevention techniques, the elderly can live independently, safe in the knowledge that their loved ones are being very careful with their safety.
