by Diane Fisher Dog Trainer

If you live in Marin County, California and you own a dog, there are options that are open to you which will help you to get your dog out, socialize it and train it. In fact, there are different community dog parks that are available which are going to benefit you and your animal in these ways. Although your choices depend upon several different factors, here are a few of the dog parks that should not be overlooked because of the benefits that they can offer to you.

The first thing that you should consider, before you choose a specific dog park is your location. It is always going to be more convenient for you to choose a park that is near your home rather than traveling across the county to enjoy some time with your furry friend. The main reason why that may be an issue is because not all dogs are going to travel well in an automobile. Although it may be enjoyable while you're at the park, it is not going to be enjoyable if your dog is getting sick in the car and ends up being lethargic from the long car ride. Choose something that is close to you and you will not have that issue.

One of the dog parks that is in Marin County that you could consider is Redhill Community Dog Park. This is a dog park that was converted from some school district land that was not utilized. It is dedicated to dogs and their owners and gives them an opportunity to have their dog in a social environment without having to have them on a leash. One of the main benefits that this park offers is the large, fenced in field where you can allow your dog to run free without having to worry about traffic or passersby getting involved. As long as you follow the rules, such as the number of dogs that are allowed, you will find that it is an excellent place for you to train your dog and to socialize it properly.

Another dog park that you may want to consider is Dog Bone Meadow. This is a clean park that is maintained quite well and has an enclosed area which allows you to train your animal, socialize it and allow it to get some needed exercise. There are also some equipment stations that are included in this dog park which will certainly be enjoyed by both the owner and the dog alike.

There may be other dog parks that are available which are more convenient to your area and will still allow you to do the proper training that is necessary. Keep in mind, these parks are shared by many animals and owners alike and you must be courteous to those that are around you if you want to be a welcome visitor. Typically, the rules are relaxed, as long as you are a good citizen of the park and maintain proper control over your animal, even though they may be off leash.
